Car shaking violently >40mph while accelerating?

Wow, it's been a VERY long time since I've posted here but I recently picked up a 99 w/ Navi for a hella deal. Anyways, there is a problem with the car. Under acceleration over about 40mph+ the front end of the car would shake as if the wheels were not torqued down properly. I checked all the motor mounts and saw that the side mount was busted, so I went ahead and replaced it, hoping that it would solve the problem. After installation, I took it down the road, the problem is still there. I checked all the suspension components and everything seems fine. The wheels and tires are also fine. This shaking only happens when I'm accelerating, and when I let go the gas, the car cruises normally. I'm totally bummed out and can't figure out what's wrong. Can someone help? THANKS!!!!

Sounds like CV joints.

I had the same problem too, when I accelerate between 40-60, it felt like something clunking with my driver side wheel, almost like something loose. Anyways, I just replaced the axle hub bearing and no more clunking during acceleration. Hope this helps.

You can replace the bearing yourself but you will need to find a shop to press fit a new one, unless you got a press in your garage.

$50 plus $75 to install since I couldn't get the axle nut to pop open even with a breaker bar and a 3 foot cheater.

If your brakes are shaking while braking, your rotors are most likely warped.

Have you checked wheel balance. Out of balance wheels will cause a shaking. Wheels should be balanced on both sides (ie. inside and outside).

Mine did the same. Had to replace axle. I swear this is a known problem. Just like the motor mount issue. Replacing the axel set me back $700 at Acura of Seattle.

Well, they gotta charge you $90 right off. Just for pulling in. Then another $200 for two hours of troubleshooting. If they replace an axle they have to balance and align the front of your ride. That's another $190. You can choose to buy the "economy" replacement axle for around $60 bucks. Or you can spring for the OEM replacement axle, like I did for $160. Add your share of state sales tax and you're at 700 clams. No lube.
