Car was running hot w/ me but not dealership

OK, so my car has been at the dealership for about 2 weeks now for two reasons:

1) the a/c was not blowing cold air

2) the thernostate needle got real close to the H.

Just called the dealership and said they have fixed the a/c problem (turned out it was a wire that was not connected) but they said the car did not over heat once with them. The service guy said they had the car running in the sun for 2 hours and nothing happened.

What do you guys think about that? Cus I'm at a loss for an explanation here

BTW They gave me a 2004 TL as a loaner, its a great car but I like my TL-Type-S just a little bit better.

I would go ahead and replace the thermostat just in case it going bad.

Cheap insurance against ruining an engine due to running hot.

if it's running hot could be a bunch of shitty things happening. Thermostat is the obvious answer, but could be a radiator leak, low coolant lever, wiring problem with ECU not reading the thermostat sensor correctly or at all. Get a code check done and see if it pulls any codes. Your CEL doesn't have to be on for their to be a sensor problem. The sensor could be working, but poorly. I my case my primary 02 sensor isn't the greatest and my CEL was on then went off about 8k miles ago and hasn't come back on. I know it needs to be replaced, but will wait a few more weeks until I get my bonus to fix it. A coolant flush wouldn't hurt either.

i'd say thermostat is your best bet. the only thing you can do by yourself checking for codes you will have to pay for unless you have a obd2 reader or you noe someone who does.
