Car getting slower?

i own a TL-S and right now it has a little over 8,500 miles on it. I raced with it a bit mashing the pedal to the ground a lot and i'm starting to get the feeling my car got slower than before. Am i really losing horses? or is it just all my imagination? thanks, By the way how harmful is Gate-shifting to the car? i have never done it yet to avoid the risk.

You didn't... by any chance, got bigger wheels since you bought the car, did you? It might just be in your imagination. (BTW, I used to live in Artesia).

No man. You're just used to the power of the car. Easy to tell, just race with people more often and you'll know that you aren't losing any power when you leave them in the dust. Just stay away from the Ferraris and Lambroguinis...hahhaa.

axleback is right. It's like getting your stereo system installed and thinking the bass has decreased over time. The bass is the same but you've gotten desensitized to it.

I've had the same feelings myself. For a stereo system all you have to do is not listen to it for a couple of days and it will seem magical again.

For an issue such as power loss, just drive someone elses car or another one you own and get back into your Acura. It will all come back to you quickly!

The easiest fix for what you're experiencing is the following:

Schedule and oil change for your car ... request an integra loaner ... drive integra for a day....

receive your TL-S and enjoy the "new" pseudo-hp that you feel.

Ok I had my car in for a couple of days to get some warranty work done on it and the Acura dealer gave me an 03 CL-S (bone stock) and I'm 99% sure that it was faster than mine. WTF is up with that?

Check the actuator on the back of the engine. Im not exactly sure what its called. It controls the butter fly in the intake manifold. My car was built in aug 02 and that motor went bad already. I notice that my car didn't pull like it should. Its very easy to check. Pop the hood and rev the motor you should hear it click, and move. Its dead center on the back of the engine.

I think that is called the torque converter (but I may be way off). This was yours not moving or clicking? Did they replace your motor or did they just change out the thing?

Does anyone know more on this subject?????

the motor that controls the butter fly inside the plenum

I haven't had time to bring my car into the dealer. I just 'fixed' it so it stays open all the time.. .....much better

MotionEffects, it wont cause any harm leaving it open. Im not exactly sure if it effects off the line performance. I do know you will feel the difference at about 3800-4000 rpms when it opens.

oil change

at 8,500 miles you should've brought it in for the first oil change, if not that's 90% sure your reason the car is feelign slow, also check tire pressure, after my first oil change noticed big difference, even sweeter after first tune-up...

MotionEffects, What i did was just zip tied the lever(under the plastic engine cover) I found time today to run up to the dealer. I love being able to warranty my own stuff. I guess someone pockets the warranty time. Thats fine by me, as long as no one but me works on my car
