This car could be better....

I am 23 and got a 2001 tl a few weeks back. I made a mistake. While this car is built good and will probably last a long time, it is really plain on the outside, could be more attractive on the inside and is actually slow compared to my old '93 maxima. It looks a lot better on paper than in person. I am in the process of getting a turbo custom made for it to see if that helps, but if not, it is out the door. The TL-S is no better. That is what the car should have looked like originally. Acura's styling is about 4 years behind.
Where do these people keep coming from?
I drive in a '93 Maxima to work all the time, even running my car against my cousins(his Maxima), and I rip him up every time! If you want speed, get the NSX, IMO. Too expensive? Get an M5. Still too expensive? Get an M3. Still? Audi S4. Still? Maxima in 5 speed, then you can talk about speed.

Some new members we're getting. All they do is talk bad about they're cars. I think TLs are slammin and they are not plain and if you think so get a body kit. If you look at some cars in this forum you will see what I'm talking about.

I know it sounds dumb, but I got caught up with the dealer. I test drove the car once, but it doesn't have the torque I want. Why keep a car you don't like? I have a question....why is no one commenting on the way the car looks? I guess I want a reason to keep the car, but it is hard to appreciate the car like you guys do. I am sure this car is great for some people, but aren't there some things you would like to change?

Okay... I am 19, and I have the 2000 TL. I love the my car as the way it is. This is my first Acura, and will be my last. I don't have too much problem with the look, but a lot more with the quality and reliability. I dont' care how others siad that their car is trouble free. Cuz I am getting all those F up problem on my car.
So, to be fair... I should say that I like the way my TL looks. Maybe the dimension is a bit too big for a young guy like me. But I can live with that.
The engine power is awesome man. You can feel the torque... It feel very much like a European car in a way. But that's JMHO. The brake sucks. The weights distribution is just bad, and since it's a FWD. There ain't much you can do to help.
But don't tell me that you buy this car for the performance! Yes, it's got double wish-bone suspension front and back. But face it, the car will not handle like a BMW or even the IS300.
But then again, I am still young. By driving a FWD heavy ass sedan, it is safer in bad weather. And if I need a fun car, I will just get a second car... Maybe you can just consider a 92 civic si + NOS combo.
You will lose lots of money if you sell it now. I realized that, so I am keeping it until the end of lease. But I can understand how you feel and why you wanna sell it.
I have problems with dealers in my area. That's why I want to get rid of it. But man, it's hard to get rid of the tail. Since the 2002 is coming...
Just few thoughts... and I will say go for it man... either get a second car for fun. Or take the lose and get rid of it. Why keep it if you are not happy about it.....
Sorry for the long post...

CORRECTION!!
The Camry looks like our TL's.
Get it right next time.
Good luck winning your argument on a TL forum. I'm sure most of us don't like our TL's and were just scared to admit it. Thanks for leading the way.
In what way is the TL good to look at? It looks like a camry.

I can't say I feel you TurboTL. You bought the car. There was obviously somethign you liked about it. You didn't just say "I'll take it" to the dealer, you also either signed a lease, check or loan. I don't know about you but I think long and hard before doing any of those things.
So now that you have it you don't like it? Its too bland and boring? Then do somethign about it! Whether that is reselling a perfectly wonderful car - losing alot of money and making someone else very happy to have it - or get a kit and some rims or any of 100s of mods.

well, I like how the TL looks after I put on the custom grill. it'll looks so much better with WW kit, too. also, if you change the spring, I bet the handling will be better than IS... Acura makes the TL the way it is because it's a Performance/LUXURY sedan... and that's also why they're making the TL-S. for performance, save up some money and get headers/intake/exaust or just wait for the supercharger that's coming out. for 30k, that's what you get. Most people are satisfied with it, what can I say? if you want something that satisfies your taste, you've gotta have the money. Many of the TL owners picked TL because of the value.

Its funny how you decide to buy the car and a few weeks after you buy it, decide it looks plain and cheap. It looks to me you bought the car blind folded or the dealer/salesman was very good.
Please explain how you would buy a car from the looks on paper. Something sounds fishy.

i dont think the engineer's intent was to built the TL for speed racers. if you want speed for cheap, get a camaro, if you want some class to it, get an M3 or NSX.

Yes, I think Acura should do some better styling for the exterior look...but then again you can always slap a body kit on like I did. Overall, I think the TL is the best value in its class.
The question is, why the hack did you buy a TL in the first place?

Did my parents bought it for me? yes and no. I was a high school drop out while I was in Asia. I worked hard and didn't spend on hard earn cash on anything stupid... Expect a $5000 mountain bike maybe... We also got lucky money in new year. Lucky my birthday in Chinese year is Jan. 1st. No kidding man... So I saved all my lucky money, and my hard earned cash. My parents are finicial consoultants... So they took good care of my money. Now I am studying in Canada. Of course my parents are still helping me out as I can't work in Canada legally. But I know my limits... I could get the M3 or the Corvetter. But I just don't think it's a right thing to do... Because I know how hard it is to earn just a freaking penny. I know I am lucky... and I admit it... But it's not like my parents paid ALL the money for the car. My saving was in 5 digit figure (Canadian dollar btw).. don't know how much left after 5 years of spending....
I'm 20. I cant afford the TL but I am pulling it off regardless (can you say 20% interest?). Every cent that has gone into my TL has been mine. I live in the ghetto
but I make more money than my parents.
but I make more money than my parents.
I would assume that Acura designed the car for the age range of mid 20's to mid 30's and probably older as well..Don't expect it to look wild and crazy. The Accord coupe and Sedan look different, and most younger ages go for the coupe for its styling. They did that for a reason, and that was to draw a younger crowd to the coupe..logic my friends.

I am 16/ almost 17 driving in a TL. True, my parents paid for the car, but I also work hard in school as well as at a job. It is nice to have financial support, but I envy the younger guys who spend all their money on thier cars. I think it takes a lot of determination to pay 400-500 a month on a car. Anyways, to TurboTL, I think you do not own a TL and are just jealous of us "young" owners. Anyways, go home, shut up, and drive your 93' Maxima!

I gotta admit, the one thing that held me back for months on getting the TL was the bland looks. But for the complete package, you just can't beat the value. I couldn't rationalize forking out another $5K (at least) for style. The looks have grown on me now and slapping a spoiler on really helped.
No car is ever perfect. Even with a car that you like, sooner or later you will find something to hate.
I still don't understand your logic behind buying a car and then hating it a few weeks later.
So either live with it or start modding!
BTW, did I mentioned that I love my TL!!!

Hehe, My payments will be $1000 per month.
WEll, I was planning on getting a Maxima until my friend convinced me to test drive the TL. At first I didn't like the TL's styling but the more I saw it the more it grew on me. Its sporty but with an elegant look so you don't get the cheap wanna be sports car look nor the old timer luxury look, its right in between.
As for its performance sucks?? I test drove the Maxima, TL, Avalon, Mazda Millenia and the only car that left me with a "Wow, that was pretty cool" feeling was the TL. The Maxima definatly has a very unique shape that many people either LOVE or HATE, the TL's is neutral and grows on you.

I think TurboTL probally got beat by a TL, since his is a 93 Maxima... And he got no where to yell, so the only way he can express his anger is to come here and trash our cars....
Yea, whatever, TL look bad, no torque, and old styling and stuff..... I think no matter how bad it is, at least still better than a 93 Maxima...... and you expect Nissan Vs. Acura? Imagin you drive a 93 Maxima to pick up girls and drive a 00 TL/CL to pick up girls.... I dun think girls would choose a 93.... BTW, I believe urs is the old old body style? Why not get a 2000 MAX SE 5spd and get us? No money? Oh, no wonder you complain about Acuras....
Dun get me wrong guys, I am not an anti-Nissan guy..... I used to have a 96 Nissan 200SXSER, and it ran 13sec, and I love the car very much.... But since I turned 18 and got a new job in Southwest Airlines, thats why I wanna a car that looks better than a loud 4 banger.... hehe.... BTW, my family used to have a 92 Maxima 5spdSE... but since my dad said it getting OLD and out dated stylein, thats why we traded in for a 96 MAX, then a 00TL....
One more thing, TL might not be that fast, but at least it's faster than a 93 Maxima!

The IS300 looks cool, love the interior but I was shocked at how small it was when I saw one in person. This doesn't really have anything to do with the topic, just felt like telling someone about my shock. :-o

Some owners like the way bone stock TL look, some have added mods to it. Since you already bought a TL, do something to it instead of just complaining : beetching won't get you anywhere but asking for suggestions from your fellow TL owners might get you some great ideas ....

Acura was obviously very successful with marketing the current TL. It outsells everything in its class. It was designed was a luxo cruiser with a bit of omph factor for older folks like me who is looking for a little comfort in a stress filled world. For the younger audience looking for performance Acura designed the Integra. It is not too comfortable for touring but is a hell of alot of fun to drive if you don't mind the noise and the bouncy ride.
For me the TL rules.

Thanks for the replies (some more than others) I don't have much time, so here is my reply to many of yours:
1) I came into a ass load of money from a relative passing away.
2) I NO LONGER HAVE THE MAXIMA
3) "On paper" means, when you compare the TL to the Maxima, IS, BMW, etc..., the TL is the best value out there.
4) In reality, you must drive the car AND look at the car against the others to tell it is not such a great value.
5) The only chicks that can be picked up in this car is mom and sister.
6) Question: Why would you buy a car that you have to add on to to make it better? And void the warranty that you paid extra for?
7) I HATE THE IS....It does suck.
8) I have nothing against Honda/Acura. I still own a prelude ('96) and love racing it(SCCA). The TL just does not have the same Honda feel to it.
9) I am voicing my opinion of the car as I see it. I SCREWED UP WITH BUYING THIS, but I thought this "forum" would help ease my mind. And it has.

If I were you, TurboTL2001, with that load of money and that much dissatifaction with a car, I would immediately dump it somewhere out of sight, and go and buy the car that you really like (if there is any). I believe you have suffer enough with your car already, why continue to make your life miserable by driving/riding in a car that you don't enjoy. You're only 21. Life is beautiful and full of choices.

Hmmmm, i dunno about everyone else, but if no matter what car you have, a lot of people would want to add something on to make it better. shiit if i had a ferrari i would get rims on it, or maybe put in a system. supra is a phat ass car and those are one of the easiest and best modded cars out. Most people mod their car mostly for the joy of performance and or to be different than everybody else. and theres nothing wrong with that. Look at Values TL, Streetz TL, Snooks TL, and everyone elses modded TL it looks better than a lot of luxury cars out there, yes i'm including bimmers and benzes. And i'm sorry to say, that car with a nice kit on and some nice rims will strain necks from the people you pass more than you think.
