Angry Car was broken into today

I'm gonna keep this short, because im just too pissed off to write a long story.

I work on UCF campus and park my car in the garage right near my office. Today at 2:30 i get a call from the UCF police department because my car's front drivers side window was busted out and lying on the ground.

The only thing that was stolen was the iPod I had, but more importantly...the window was destroyed along with the Blitzsafe cable connecting the iPod to my stereo. The cord is worth more than the iPod

Anyway...I have to replace and re-tint my window now. I know the stock alarm system will go off when I try to open the door when it is locked from the inside, but do you think it went off when they busted the window?

What kind of alarm should I buy to install to protect anything WORSE from happening. I'm very grateful to still have my rims and car though. But still super pissed...what a great birthday present, they were only a week early.

Sorry to hear that man. If they had gotten the other window I woulda been able to help you out with a really cheap replacement window..woulda just needed to reuse the tabs at the bottom...
Even the best aftermarket alarm wouldn't have done anything for your window as they woulda hit that and then it woulda gone off. Overall, just asshole people doing asshole things.
Hope you have a good birthday tho..insurance should take care of all of the damage including cable and maybe iPod because technically it is an integrated part of the vehicle with Blitzsafe.

That sucks bro. sorry to hear that. I get paranoid sometimes parking in Vegas since GTA is pretty high here. You probably will never have something that protects the windows. If the idiot wants in they will get in. You can put things on to slow them down but nothing will prevent them from taking what they want if they are persistent.

If you want a little more protection purchase the Viper alarms. I personally sold them for 4 years and have installed them on all my cars. I love them. rarely any problems. Plus your insurance might give you a break. There is a few models and there is one that has the auto start too. But usually the Vipers have the flashing parking lights, starter kill, shock sensor, led, 6 tone siren, and you can hook up the power door locks and trunk too. I did this in my other car. I hid 2 - 130 db sirens called pain generators inside. You cant stay in there for more than 1 minute. you get a major headache and makes you deaf. Just a little hint.

The insurance is covering the window and tint. Thanks for the offer though.

I'm getting it fixed tomorrow. The detective on the scene got fingerprints from an area I don't usually put my hands on the door...so hopefully they can find something. They are going to try to get some leads from the other two break ins today. I'm glad I have such a great Police Department on my side...except the detective told me I should probably get some lighter tint,

this happened to me at my office parking deck about 2 years ago. when i got the car back, i started parking IN FRONT of the cameras.

scope out a spot near cameras if you can. if nothing else, at least you can see how the bastard does it next time.

then booby trap him.

Make sure your rates don't go up because your car is in a "high-risk" area. And take advantage of this opportunity to get a new iPod. Looks like one was overdue, anyways.

And I don't think the alarm goes off when the glass is shattered. Not on TLs. It'll go off if they actually opened the door, however.

I would, but UNFORTUNATELY the 5th largest school in the nation can't afford to put some cameras in their garages.

That was kinda the whole point of having an old ass iPod in my car...so I really wouldnt care if it was taken. I figured someone will DEFINITELY break in if I have an iPod touch in the car.

When choosing your next alarm you should look at DEI products. DEI owns Viper and Clifford. They also have the ability to auto roll windows, add proximity sensors, and add sensors for breaking glass. (glass breaking gives off a certain frequency of sound) None of this would keep them from breaking your window, but if you have the pager connected to the alarm, and your office is close by, you may be able to walk up on them next time.

Another great point that kuni touched on is the high decibal sirens. I like putting them under the dash. =) Theives want to stick their head under there to look for wires to cut, but that siren so close to their head is DEAFENING!

yea man sorry to hear.. that sucks.. just to clarify.. the alarm does go off when the glass shattered... a few years back i was working and accidentally locked my keys in my trunk and my car doors were locked.. i was short on time and was stuck in front of an office building where i had to drop some papers off, no time to wait for a locksmith or anything so i just smashed a window in with a rock... alarm went off and everyone was looking at me like i was a crazy thief or something.. and not thinking i smashed the tiny window behind the rear driver side window... lol ended being the most expensive one to replace

Sorry to read about your break-in. It's a crummy feeling and it can be such a pain to replace a window.

Was your iPod or the Blitzsafe cord visible from outside the car?

Arrow Alarm...

Sorry 2 hear that. I have AutoStart 2-way Remote Starter+Alarm installed on my car. I have the senstivity level set on max, so once the alarm is on, even is somebody taps on any of my windows, it goes off. Try to get 2-way system. Off course, if u can spend a little extra, Viper Alarm System would be the best choice.

Yea...I guess I could have put the iPod inside the cupholder or something. I think it was in there, but the little doors were open and a white iPod on black interior sticks out.

Good news though. I got the window replaced today and didnt pay a dime because it was covered from my insurance and got my illegal tint back on and the insurance said they would probably reimburse me for the tint when I fax them the receipt (which doesn't say the % of tint).

lodge a formal (written) complaint to the appropriate department(s). With enough complaints, they may see the potential liability of not having them in place.
