Can't fix this clunk...

This clunk in my front end on the drivers side is driving me insane. I've replaced all 3 engine mounts (which has definitely cut down on noise from my front end) and had my suspension looked at (which I was told nothing was wrong). I'm still hearing a clunk at 2 specific times: when letting up on the gas after a hard acceleration and when making hard left and right hand turns (but mostly left). Only other thing I could think of is maybe the bearings, but the car runs smooth at all other times. Did some searching but couldn't find similar symptoms/circumstances. Any help would be appreciated.

Could be the constant velosity joints acting up. Lift the front wheels off the ground and turn the front wheels and see if there is any noise clicking noises etc.

I understand the mounts have been replaced, but perhaps one or more of them is bad? I had my motor mounts replaced as well, and before then I had the clunk as well.

Yup, check bearings and make sure your hubs are tight! Also, check your strut mounts. If you fixed your engine mounts, I can't think of anything else?

I might know the probally but not 100% sure in your case, back at 19 to 30K miles I had a clunk in the front end.
I took it in they could not duplicate the prob
Second time they checked and replaced mounts
Third time they replaced all the front brakes including rotors and pads
fourth time all the suspension parts
Now fifth time the acura techs are just scrating their heads they inspected every damn thing in the front and it came down to ONE bolt not being torqued to factory spec. Now 90k miles I still dont have the clunk

Well there are 5 mounts total. Need to find out which ones were and wernt replaced. Then i would look into ball joints, radius rod bushings. after that i would look into the cv joints.

I have the same clunk. It usually happens when I'm backing out of the driveway on to the street and I crank the wheel all the way to the left or right. I think it happens more often when it's cranked to the right.

My mechanic couldn't find anything wrong. I finally gave up on it.

I replaced the front, passenger side, and rear engine mounts. I had the ball joints inspected and they were fine, I guess I'll have to look into the radius rod bushings and cv joints. Are either of these DIYable?

maybe a plastic flap is catching something with the wheel when it's turned all the way to the right. same thing happened to mine, i just cut around it, so it doesn't catch anymore.

yes they both are, if thats what it is. I can help you thru it if thats what you discover it is, Did you have your trans replaced yet? has this noise happened since then?

Yeah I had the transmission replaced around 92,000 (Fall 2005) and I am at 114,000 right now. This noise first showed up around the same time I was dealing with engine mount issues. I actually thought the noise was the mount, but it turned out I was hearing 2 separate noises, one of which was cleared up by replacing the mount. This noise is pretty new so I really dont think it has to do with the tranny. Also, the more I think about the noise, it's almost a mixture of a pop and a clunk. fsttyms1, is there anything I could look for to help diagnose the problem on my own? I just paid 120 bucks to have it looked at for a couple hours and really dont want to spend any more money for some one to just look at it. Thanks for your help.

I apreciate the response, but this noise is definitely not a plastic flap. It has a heavier sound to it, if that makes any sense.

My mechanic said the first thing he looked at was the sway bar and everything was good. Not sure about the bushings.

I don't hear the noise when braking, only when turning and sometimes accelerating and then letting off.

Thanks for the responses guys, we're bound to get this narrowed down eventually.

I would have to say either another motor mount, or maybe a CV joint possibility? about the only things that would cause that are ball joints, something in the suspension, swaybar end links, radius rod bushings, motor mounts or something like a loose cross beambolt(the black frame that supports the engine and trans)

Dont really know what to say for inspecting other than looking for loose/worn out parts, grabbing and yanking on stuff to see if any thing moves. Another thing that might want to look at is the coils. See if any where maybe its the spring rubbing or catching on itself or maybe the tophat is worn out to the spring?

Its ridiculously cold here so I'm not going to be climbing under my car any time soon. I guess I'm just going to have to take it somewhere in a few months and deal with the noise until then. This is so frustrating it's driving me insane.

Thank you everyone for your help, I'll let you know when I figure out what it was.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I believe I had the same issue as the OP and I was able to fix it.

Parts #10 and 11 are the culprit. It appeared they were put on backwards when they replaced my transmission and took a while before they started to cause the clunk. I ended up replacing them with Moog brand.

Make sure you spray them with white lithium grease or they will squeak like a mouse. Looked like they just installed my passenger side wrong not the driver side but I'm going to replace both.
