Can you turn on the climate control w/o first turning on the A/C??

I haven't been able to turn any climate control feature on without it first turning on the A/C. Is it even possible?

you can turn on climate control and then turn the A/C off. Does that help?

had the same question..

i think i posted this question before and remembering not getting a positive answer. it gets to be a little annoying when all you want is to turn up the fan speed but to do so you have to turn on the climate control.. which in turn turns on the ac.

My point exactly, all I want to do is turn on the fan, not the A/C system at the same time. I don't think it is possible. You have to do it in two steps it seems, turn the climate control system on then turn the A/C off. Its winter you know!! I want the heat, not A/C! Perhaps I am overly concerned, but when its 20 degrees outside and the engine isn't warmed up, I feel that the quick "on-off" of the A/C compressor can't be too healthy for it.

Until proven otherwise, I guess we'll have to live with it. Kind of an oversight.

the ac shouldnt come on just by turning up the fan speed!
and ITS designed to cycly in the winter! if it was bad for it acura wouldnt have done it that way. why does your air come on by trying to adjust the fan speed? unless you have it on full auto. turn auto off

I think he means turning the fan on with the system completely off. I have the navi, if the system if off i have to press either AUTO or a fan speed to turn the CC system on. In both cases the A/C always instantly comes on (whether its cold outside or hot), after which i have to shut it off manuall from the navi screen.

I guess its the same way for non-navi's...

Yes. when climate control and fan are off, when any function is activated, the A/C will come on as well. I then have to turn off the A/C in a second step. then of course it won't come on by adjusting fan speed, temp, etc.

During the winter, I leave the climate system on all the time (don't turn it off before I shut down the car). When I turn the car back on, it remembers the last settings (AC off). This is the only "work around" I have found for this issue. My '99 STS was this way also.

I went to Acura about a problem similar to this. My A/C wouldnt come on when the car was cold and defrost my windows. I would have to drive with my head out the window in 30 degree weather because the car wouldnt defrost!

They said that the A/C wont come on if the car is too cold. But he also said that it was designed to come on with any button. I asked why, and he said we shouldnt ever have to turn if off manually. He also said these newers cars have so much power now that the A/C shouldnt affect your mileage at all.

However, I still turn my A/C off when I dont need it. I dont care how much he said it doesnt hurt.

i ment the climate control, not the ac. my climate control is never off. i always like air circulating. but the air is only on like i stated above. it doesnt turn on when i adjust the fan speed.

A/C is just as important to use in the winter as it is the summer. A/C is first and foremost a dehumidifier and a refrigerant second. Running the A/C with the temperature up higher than normal will still heat the car (you are *not* heating and cooling at the same time), but the added benefit is it will keep your windows from fogging up. My climate control is set on either 68-69 in the summer and 70-71 in the winter and the car is always comfortable and fog free. The only time I ever shut off the A/C is in the summer when I have the sunroof and windows open. My advice--keep it on auto and let it do it's thing.
