Can someone tell me what happened?
Okay first off my transmission is original to the car and had to get a new 3rd gear clutch pack at around 105,000 miles, but since then had been running good till 170,000 miles.
So I was backing out of a parking spot and then go in to drive "D5" give some gas then I hear a pop and or a snap. Then the car goes nowhere in drive even when giving it gas. I get the car back in the parking spot, and just sitting in neutral not moving the speedometer reads that I'm going 15 mph and when I switch to manual mode it says its in 3rd gear, while I'm in neutral not moving. I couldn't really move it up past reverse to get to park, but when i finally got it to go into park it made a horrible grinding noise and I just put it back in neutral. I checked the transmission fluid btw and it was a little low but not too bad.
Can someone tell me whats going on?

mmmm
Checked Range Switch?
The snap sounded Metallic and Loud?.. If so perhaps you popped the Main Trans Shaft? Which would be pretty much insanely rare..

how did you have just the 3rd gear clutch replaced?
that's a teardown item to reach~
low is low on atf! how low? below the lower dot? leaking?
looked under the car yet for broken parts?

Sounds like Incorrect gear ratio which will be fault code P0730 will appear soon, possible range switch malfunction and followed by the worlds famous P0740 Torque Converter clutch failure which indicates your transmission is DONE.

To me this screams axles ! Turn the steering wheel and have a look one of them broke in half. You might see something like this.
Also it wont go in reverse because its protecting itself from destroying the the reverse mechanism so just use your e-brake for now to prevent the car from rolling until you get it checked out and fixed. Let us know what you find

Sounds like a axle with the snap sound you heard. Do you have a Check engine light?
And like above, you dont just get a new 3rd gear clutchpack, your trans gets rebuilt.

Okay no lights came on the dash after the whole thing btw and there was no leak at that moment as I checked for a leak. I didn't see anything unusual underneath at all but also didn't have it raised up either.
Also my front axle had previous problems. Was diagnosed as a cracked front axle and made my steering and braking all shakey and what not. But I had that all fixed up and was driving smooth since. I know monday I'm taking it to an Acura dealer for sure

"Fixed" how? Did you have the axle replaced with a new OEM? Or a rebuild?

Rebuilt axles are junk, I sure learned my lesson.
Hopefully they dont say its the trans and offer you a newer car If its just the axle.
You're gonna have to get it towed for sure.

You dont have to lift the vehicle to see if the axle is broken. Turn the wheel all the way to one side and look. Reach in and pull on it. There shouldnt be any movement.
