Can Honda service my 2003 TL-S?

I recently bought a 2003 TLS from Santa Monica Acura. As a side note, it's all black in and out... it's a a sexy little bitch.

I bought it with the promise that it had the 7 year/100k powertrain warranty in addition to the 4 year bumber to bumper. I would like to get proof of this, anyone know where I can get it?

More importantly, I live in Lancaster CA. It's about a good 80 miles away from the dealer in santa monica and I have to take the Car in for NUMEROUS fixes and the 7500/15000 mile service. I work 40+ hours a week and the only day I can take it in is on Saturday. Since there's a lot of stuff they need to fix, I'm prety sure they're gonna need it for a few day and they're gonna need to give me a loaner. I drive 70 miles a day just to work, if they need the car for 3 days, I would easily put 370~ miles on it. Would they have a problem with this?

My second question is that I have a local Honda dealership, would they be able to service it under the Acura Warranty? That would solve all my issues .

I don't see why not...you ought to give them a call.

The only thing I could think of is that they would rarely, if ever, have parts in inventory for your car...but they can always be ordered.

A couple of my friends used to work at a Honda dealership. There was no Acura dealership in that area, so they serviced quite a few of them.

However, it was only for stuff that shared parts with the Honda models. Anything Acura-specific, they couldn't do. Not due to the lack of knowledge, but because it wasn't authorized.

I know, because I tried to get my '03 TL-S serviced there. I was living on campus, and the nearest Acura dealership was about 60 miles away whereas the Honda dealership was only about 5 miles. But they still said no, despite having two close friends working there.

was it a certified pre owned? i

if not how many miles on it when u bought it? and when did it come out of production and hit the road. basic acura warranty is 4yrs/50k miles which ever comes first.

The dealer didn't give me any information, even though I told him I wanted it. He said to call the service department and request it. I called them and they said they didn't have any paperwork that they could give me

Anyway, I called the two local Honda dealers and they both said they wouldn't service them. I have to take it into a Acura dealer.

I bought the car with 15.2k, it wasn't certified pre-owned, but the manager said it had a 7 year/100k powertrain warranty. He ALSO said that it was serviced at 7500 and 15000 miles, but it's not listing any service ever being done to the vehicle on the acura care website. What should I do?

7-year/100k-mile powertrain warranty = he probably meant the extended transmission warranty and made it sound like it was something extra.

All '99-'02 TLs and early batch '03 TLs have that extended warranty. Later batch '03 TLs seem to be covered, however, albeit unofficially.

You should take it in and get the Oil Jet Kit installed, I made my Honda dealer do that before I even took it off the lot and they added it to my vehicle information on the Acura Owners Site.

Be Careful Guys!!

yesterday i asked about the 3yr/36,ooo mile warranty on my replaced tranny and they said that offer cancels at 100,000 miles. So me, having it replaced at 85,000 miles i had a 15,ooo mile warranty instead of a 3 yr. like acura said. I hope im not confusing anyone.

That makes sense though. It seems they lied to you about it being 3 yr 36K. It's usually 12 months 12,000 miles on a replaced tranny.

the 3 year thing was a dealership type thing, honda has a 12000 mile warranty on all replaced parts, you are correct.

I scheduled:

Install Oil Jet to satisfy recall
Inspect brakes (Car shakes when braking)
Wheel Alignment (Car slightly veers to the right)
Wiper Blade Replacement (I'll be damed if I have to replace wipers that came with the car less than a month ago)
Molding behind driver door handle is loose and annoying the crap out of me.
Steering wheel mounted controls are shorted out, all buttons seem to go to next track.
7500 Mile Service
15000 Mile Service (I realize what they do on the 7500 mile service is also done in the 15k service). I just want them to update the maintence records to reflect that.

I scheduled it for tomorrow morning, I'm gonna take the car tonight and drop if off, but only if they give me a loaner until the car is done.

From what i was told, you have to be a specific amount of miles from the acura dealer (if it were to break down) in order to to have warranty work done at a honda delaer. If the car is driveable they will want you to bring it to the actual acura dealer

1. Depending on your VIN the oil jet kit was incorporated (internally) to later batch 03s
2. That is warped rotors, should be covered if you are less than 50k miles.
3. Maintenance item that you will have to pay for.
4. Wear and tear you will have to pay for.
5. They'll take care of the molding.
6. There was a service bulletin on this, I believe, so it's a simple fix.
7 and 8. 7500 mile service is an oil change and tire rotation, 15,000 mile service is an assload of inspections that the car doesn't need or that you could easily do yourself and save a lot of money. If you ask them to do the 7500 service and 15000 service, do you want them to change the oil twice? Wouldn't rotating the tires twice mean they ended up back where they started? Seriously, they're not going to record the mileage as 7500 and 15000 in the same day just for your records. Forget that idea.

guys, i bought the car used. and i'm not sure if it was serviced by acura. in the worst case scenario...if it wasnt serviced by them, would i still be eligible for the extended warranty of 7 yrs/100,000miles?

Doesnt matter if it was used. If your car is a 99-02 or a limited range of 03 your car tranny is covered by the 7 year 100k extension. (the extension isnt for the whole car, just tranny)
UNLESS you have a salvaged title, then you dont get the extension

Make sure call the dealer first before you left your house to confirm that they will promise to give you the loaner if it takes whole day or more for service. Most dealer around So Cal will only give you the loaner if it takes whole day or more for services. Oil jet install with 15,000 miles services will certaintly qualify for the loaner if you ASK for it before you come.
The dealer should have the record of 7.5K and 15K mikes service if the previous owner took the car to dealer. Go to acuraowner link website to check to see if your car qualify for the oil jet fix.

You mean to say labor costs at a Honda dealership are a little over half the labor costs at an Acura? Hourly labor at my Acura is $97, and I haven't seen anything within 50 miles cheaper than $80/hr - including private shops. You sure your numbers are right? Or am I misunderstanding them?

Huh.. guess it's time to start looking into the local Honda dealer. Has anyone noticed serious differences in quality of service between Acura and Honda?
