Thumbs up Calling out TL Type-S's

Hello,
I raced a TL Type s from a roll a few days ago in Rochester, NY and it was supprisingly quick!
Has anyone taken their Type S to the track and/or what kind of numbers have the magazines printed concerning the 1/4 mile times.
Also, on one of the DSM boards someone posted that the Type S is a SOHC v6.
Is this true?
Thanks for your help.

No TL-S has a twin-turbo V3, and the turbo is from the MAC truck.

DSM stands for Diamond Star Motors which was the collaboration of Chrysler and Mitsubishi to make the Eagle Talon, Mitsubishi Eclipse, and Laser. They were built in Normal, IL.
I hope that answers your question.

I am confused about your purpose.
I ask a simple question about the Type s specs as I cant seem to find them anywhere. I also state that the Type S seemed quick.
Im not sure how you can construe this as an attack. Can anyone clarify specs on the Type S please?
Thanks in advance,
Evan

You'll have to forgive some of the looney people on this board!! They mean you no harm!!

As for the answers your looking for. Several people have taken their type-s to the track and I think the average 1/4 mile times have been between 14.5 and 14.7 if the car is stock. I think with headers/exhaust/intake the time was reduced to 14.2 or 14.3 if memory servers, I could be wrong though!!

The Type-s is a SOHC V6.

Hope that helps!! :p

I think trap speeds for stock TLs are anywhere from 92-96mph, but like rmarin2 I'm not 100% on that.

BadDSM, what do you have under the hood of your car to get that 13.3 @104? That is pretty nasty! Aren't the Talon and Eclipse the same car just one badged as Chysler and the other a Mitsu?

Lightbulb Ahh!

Thanks Rich for that concise post.
Those Type-s's are definitely quick!
Im guessing those times are for the Autos as the 6 speeds are very new to the market.
WOW!
Do you know by chance what the trap speeds are that people have been getting?
Im guessing 95-96 mph by how fast that Type S that I raced was.
If you would like to see what this is in reference to you can check it out here:

Thanks again!

TL-S doesn't have a 6-speed out YET!! I'm hoping if the CL-S 6 speed does well that Acura will make the next TL-S a manual too. The trap speed has been between 95 and 97, if memory serves.

Definitely tell us what your doing to get 13.3 at 104!

Yes, the Talons and Eclipses are all mechanically identical.
If you click on the www link at the bottom of my posts youcan see my page. Esentially I have added a full exhaust, intake piping, a fuel pump from a 3000gt and a clutch to get the power to the ground.
Im just getting started..

I just checked out your mods and I have one thing to say! How the hell did the TL Type-s beat you? Were you on medication and so your shifting was off. Based on what you have and simply based on the fact that you can do a 13.3 at 104 you should have been take him. You weigh so much less than a TL-S.

Well,
I never lined up with him to race.
I was pulling out of a gas station and he went by me.
He slowed for a red light ahead as I was approaching him from behind. The light went green and he was still rolling.
He accelerated and I took chase from about 5 cars back.
I switched lanes and we were flooring it from a 20 mph roll up to maybe 90-100 when a big tractor trailer truck decided to pull out maybe an 1/8th mile ahead of us. This is in a 45 zone.
I was pulling on him but didnt have enough time and space to get up next to him.
By the time I hit the brakes he was maybe 2-3 cars ahead of me.
Not a fair race but I wasnt flying by him at all which suprised me!
It looked like a stock exhaust, etc,..
If it was from a stop I would have killed him as I can cut 1.8 sixty foot times on street tires and then I would have pulled away after that.
I pulled up to the next light with him and gave him a thumbs up and he complemented me on my exhaust.
Good guy and a sweet car!
I have a front mount intercooler on order and with that installed I hope to turn some high 12's at 106 mph or so.

I don't think he said he lost, just that he was impressed.

Actually with the AWD the car weighs around 3250 lbs.
I have removed a few things like the spare tire and jack but AWD DSM's are no lightweights.
How much do Type S-s weigh?
Thanks

If so it could've been me cause i was ****in w/ alot of people on the way back from canada, including a talon at one point. not sure where though. i might not've even been in Rochester unless that's right off of 78. but i did get off to get gas somewhere round the albany area and ****ed w/ a few cars? could that've been you?

hmm

Actually it was only last Friday.
It was a dark blue colored Type S.
I know every time I go through Albany I find cars to race.
Take it easy.

Whats up DSM? LOL, I had to laugh when I read the first couple of responses you got. And there wasn't a "hint" of bashing in your original post either...ahh well, take it as a joke as there is allot of aspiring comedians on this forum.

Anyway, there is a member here (w/ a Type-s TL) from Queens who also has DSM (ofcourse GSX or TSI) all worked named Turboara or something. Conidering he has both cars, he probably has a allot of knowlegde on both rides. Though I seldom see him post lately.

The TL-S is quick but it isn't a rocket ship....13.3 would be very hard for us to reach.........at least with the same anount of money one puts into say a stock AWD DSM and a stock TL-S.

Thats the beauty of a turbocharged car IMO. They are so much fun to mod,

Chris.

hey BadDSM

I don't know what you're doing in a TL-S site but thanks for the complements. I know I can't take you on my TL-S...But surely I would like to race you with my Stang when you get your intercooler. As for now, I know you won't be able to hang yet. I had a '93 Talon myself a long time ago. I know what they're capable of. Keep it up because you have a sleeper waiting to wake up. Just for point to point reference. My Talon had HKS EVC, VPC, AFC, blowoff, Greddy intercooler, apexi exhaust and was pulling 12.6 @ 112 on street tires. My stang is pulling 11.5 on street tires... I'll see you soon my fellow Tri-Star.
