CAI or SR?????
CAI... you get much cooler air w/ it than a short ram which pulls hot air from the engine bay... since the CAI filter is actually located under the bumper and outside the engine bay, you get the cooler air...
maybe someone else can respond with the kind of hp increase you get from one...

If you're only getting the intake. Going with the CAI or SR won't make that big of a deal. They'll make your car sound better tho. That's if you like your engine to sound racey. I run a CAI but it's my own design since I didn't like AEMs. So, I can't vouch for how well the AEM one works.

If you're talking about difference in design of the intake due to the exhaust, then there is no difference.
If you're talking about the noise... it'll probably "up" the noise but I'm almost certain you will hear your exhaust note over the intake sound.
I personally do not have an intake system on this car. I had short ram (Akimoto Funnel Ram II) on my previous cars. Anyway, currently, I'm running stock air box with NO resonator box. I feel noticeable gain in torque + hp.

Performance:
SR (Short Ram) is sucking in the hot air from the engine bay. SR is better than stock filter due to less restrictive filter; however, the hot air is giving it the adverse effect.
Therefore, CAI (Cold Air Intake) is the best set up performance wise. It doesn't not matter if you have an after market exhaust or not. Colder air is always better. While hot air leads to detonation (in some extreme cases), cold air give you more hp.
Maintenance
SR is easy to access when cleaning. Just pop the hood open and the filter is right there when you need to clean it. On the other hand, CAI is located closer to the ground behind the bumper. When it's time to clean your filter, you'd have to either
1. take off the driver side front wheel off and pry open the plastic cover
2. take the bumper off and have access to the filter, or
3. jack up the car and get access to the filter thru the under garmet.
Either way, cleaning becomes a hassle.
Sound
Sound wise, I think you'll get comparable sound from either SR or CAI.
