Cabin Air Filter
had my 30 k miles service done today...did all regular maintenance and all...the dealer said...filters need to be replaced...and said...cost would be $149/-. I thought that was a complete rip off...i work in filtration and i know how much those things cost...i can infact design one for my car(trust me...i m capable). Now...i tried to do a search here..and there a few instructions that it can be done easily by removing the glove box...but there is slight confusion..does anyone know....is $149 worth paying for...or buy a cheap after market filter and DIY...BTW...i would love to have a carbon filter with same air flow rate
any help...appreciated...
thanks

149? holy crap!
Freakin Stealership.
Do it yourself bro, takes about 10 mins.
With everyday, i begin to realize how shitty Acura dealerships are. No normal service, the only thing they do know how to do is how to rip you off.

hmm.. gosh these tl's have so much new/different things that I've never heard of before. Umm what exactly is a cabin filter? Is that just a filter that umm filters the air when you turn on the air/ac/heat? Sorry I'm a dummy, I've never heard of that before, that's all.

invest in a helm service manual...you'll save hundreds of dollars doing stuff yourself and at the same time...learning more about your car. I sometimes see it on ebay...or you can buy it directly from HELM for like 60.00

its a no brainer..on this thread, somebody as already written detailed instructions as to how u can replace it...and its pretty straight forward..didnt take me more than 15 minutes to do it...i really hate the acura dealer who wanted $140 to replace them for me..anyways, the only thing u should remember is, when u cut the vertical plastic panel behind glove box to remove old filter, after replacing the new ones, the panel goes horizontally and use the two screws that are provided for the same. it fits in the slots perfectly.

did mine 2 weeks ago following the DIY I searched. Super easy. I was done in 20 min. I should have done this alot earlier than 35k B/C it was sooo easy and sooo dirty too!!
Had a bunch of leaves and dead bugs stuck in there so I took some compressed canned air and shot it around in there till I could get it all to fly out.

Guys, I understand where the filters are located but the only problem/trouble I have is actually taking out the stops for the glovebox. I dont want to force it and end up breaking the stops off so my question is which way does the stops pop out. Do you push it in (towards the inside of the glovebox) or out (away from the glovebox)? Any help will greatly be appreciated.
Thanks guys!

just take a flat screw driver and pop the stops out...u might have to push the glove box door little backwards while holding the stops and it should come out...come on its a plastic part..be gentle and u won't break anything...

This is a link to the instructions. I've always wondered where this was. My brother's Lexus has this in another location and he sticks an air freshener in there and it smells great every time he uses the ac or heat or even leave the vents open for air to flow into the car.

i'd like to change my own cabin filter too, but i'm always kinda weary whenever things need to be cut and a vertical plastic panel needs to be cut to remove the old filter. do the mechanics at the dealership also perform this cut when u pay em to replace it?

It is just like cutting toe nails... You wait so long to do it and when you change the filters, you realize how EASY it was and wonder why you waited so long to do it.
