A/C compressor replacement help

Well after having a shop vac and charge my a/c about 2 months ago. It appears my compressor bearings are on thier way out. I say this because when the a/c is turn on the car bogs down. I have even seen it start to smoke the belt. So buying a compressor-reciever drier-expansion valve and fixing this no a/c in the summer problem.

My question is how do you go about pulling the compressor. Looking under there I dont see enought room to just pull it with out either removing the rad or (less likely option) droping the subframe.

Thanks in advance for your help

Have the shop that charged it check the pressures, and make sure both radiator/condensor fans are working at full speed. If your bearings are bad, you should be getting some pretty ugly noises out of it.

Thank for the response but I am not looking for diag help. I know the compressor is bad. I am looking for ppl who have replaced one to tell me how they got it out. Because as mentioned I can tell there is not enought room to just slide it out. I can figure it out on my own but then I would be neglecting a very useful tool. The ability to ask a fellow tl owner how they did it.

For sure, if you remove the alternator, it will come out from above. On some hondas/acuras, I've been able to get them out from underneath. You will probably have to drop the engine cradle a couple inches, if it is even possible.

IIRC, the shop manual says to remove the alternator and the radiator fan shroud in order to pull the compressor from the top.

Thumbs up

I would be hesitant to pry down on the subframe. Nothing good ever comes from forcing things to go into place. Ive learned that the hard way (cough-a couple times). On the other hand the alternator and fan shroud is were I was gona start. Thanks guys I got the answer I needed.

From: Baja, México.
1) Remove A/C Fan shroud
2) Remove Alternator
3) Remove A/C Compressor

Done.
