Buying a used Acura 3.2 TL need an inspection
Hi,
I found a 2000 Acura 3.2 TL that is in good condition. I would like to bring it to an Acura dealership near the seller's house.
What type of service does Acura offer when looking over a used Acura? Is it just a simple safety inspection or are there other types of services where they check the engine, transmissision, brakes etc.
Thanks

I bought my TL used and went to the Acura dealership and they offered a routine inspection that covered some of the smaller basic items i believe but i asked for a full frame inspection also just in case. I think all together the price of the full inspection was around $250 or so. I cant remember off the top of my head what they usually look for but i'm sure if you call them they will let you know.

Welcome!
Be sure to read up on the second generation TL transmission problems before buying.
Here's a good thread to check out:
https://acurazine.com/forums/wash-wax-23/leather-conditioner-help-106818/
If the car doesn't have a salvage title, the transmission will have a 109,000 mile/93 month extended warranty through Acura.
The 93 month limit starts from the original in-service date. Many 1999 TLs have already hit the time limit. A year from now that will be the case for the 2000 TLs.
Call Acura with the VIN number to confirm warranty coverage.
Ask if everything works.
Ask if the car has ever been in an accident or if it ever needed body work.
If you don't like the smell of cigarette smoke, ask if the car has ever been smoked in. The smell of smoke can be nearly impossible to get rid of completely.
Good Luck!
Bob

I did that with my 2000 3.2TL and basically the guy told me it was in great shape expect the timing belt which goes on all cars and he seems to have been right because the car has always ran great (with an occasional hiccup in the tranny) expect now my current acura dealer is saying the belt needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually drove a couple of TLs before this one and they had the common jerk when I was decellerating. This car its not bad at all, but I will check if it qualifies for the warranty. It has 100,000 km on it now.
It's been accident free and lady driven. So hopefully I got a good one here. I'm making sure I get this one right, my 94 Accord was a lemon.
Hopefully everything checks out fine tomorrow... Can't wait to drop it and rim it

you say 100,000KM are you a Canada spec car- they have a different warranty than US models and you really want to know the trans is covered because they do have a failure problem. Other than that just make sure the brakes and rotors and calipers look good and enjoy your new ride.

Good deal
You can also run the VIN number past acura customer care- number in states is 1-800-382-2238 extension 5 there should be a Canuk division I would think- I know there is a special acura.com for you guys
or try to register it by VIN at www.acura.com ownership experience
Either will tell you if the oil jet recall was taken care of, if the trans or other parts have extended warranty- parts of the airbags do, and if any warranty repairs have been done to the car.

Congrats on your joining the TL lovers club!
After a few tanks of gas the mileage goes way up- or you calm down on the vtec useage.
Take a high performance driving class at local racetrack and really enjoy the TL to its fullest.
