You basically have to let the thermostat open up and in order to do that you have to let it run to operating temperature and than some.
Using the spill free funnel. Fill up the radiator with coolant till the funnel is about half way and no more coolant is going in, turn on the car and keep an eye on the funnel and keep filling till the radiator fan kicks on. I usually let it run longer and the fan kick on a few times and than turn it off. Plug the funnel and put on the radiator cap. Fill up the reservoir tank and let it sit and it will start pulling in coolant from the reservoir. Check it out a few hours later or next day which ever you prefer and top things off again. Drive the car, let it sit and repeat if needed. Once you get to the point where its not needing to be topped off you are good!
Messy way to do it is keep filling it up as it spills out and goes in. Once the radiator fans kick on is usually the time the thermostat is opening and that is the crucial time to make sure you get the coolant through the lines and the air out. I usually let the fan kick on a few times. Turn off the car, top it off and close the cap on the radiator. Fill up the reservoir tank and let it sit and it will start pulling in coolant from the reservoir. Check it out a few hours later or next day which ever you prefer and top things off again. Drive the car, let it sit and repeat if needed. Once you get to the point where its not needing to be topped off you are good!
Hope this helps.
I strongly recommend purchasing the spill free funnel makes things so much more better and less of a mess.
