Bulb problems!

Need your help guys,
so one of my bulbs went out on my 99 tl, i decided while im at it upgraded my bulbs as we all know the stocks are 4300k i went up to 8000k now while im driving my bulbs go out (both) not at the same time but they go out, i have to turn the light switch off and back on for them to start working again, my question is can it be that the ballast isn't powerful enough for them and i should go back to 4300k or can i at least do 5000k. Please help me, its getting annoying

I have 6000k bulbs on stock/OEM ballasts with no issues, Sounds like you may need to replace/upgrade yours. Rumor has it that you're able to upgrade, bulbs & all, for under $100. Someone else via the forums will be able to better direct you as to where to find that deal, as I've not needed to take advantage of it yet...

Kelvin ratings have nothing to do with being more powerful or not! they are just different color bulbs so the issue isn't in your bulbs but rather in the ballast side.

How did your Bulbs "went out" because an HID bulb doesn't go out, it just lower its brightness until is useless or shift into pinkish color.. But it should not go out completely if it did then your ballasts are on their way out.

thing is i never had this issue before until the 8000k bulbs were put in, i was just sick of spending 80 bucks for each bulb, i've gone to 2 automotive electricians and they all say its because of the kelvins difference that the ballast isn't strong enough but the wattage is the same on either bulb so why should that matter that's why i figured i'd ask on here.

^ LOL They are full of shit, it has nothing to do with Kelvin Ratings that only changes its color hue the bulb function with the same power as your OEM Guaranteed as I'm rolling 8K in my Stock Ballast and Igniter for at least 5 Years now.

Go to ebay and get a pair of 15 buck bulbs they are cheap as F***! and if your lucky they will last you a good couple of years.. If your unlucky they will change color before 6 months (Been there, done that).

My 2000 TL still has the factory installed HID set-up. I have experienced the original bulbs turning pink and even some flickering as they got old. In one incident, the low beam completely went dead.....so I beg to differ, but the original hid bulbs can die without having the ballasts die.

Yeah....maybe a couple of weeks in the winter time.

But it did eventually die. Once replaced, everything was luckily back to normal !!!

some bulbs don't get along with the stock ballast- resistance etc

its time for a `kit`
I like www.hidextra.com where 59$ (before 10% coupon code) gets full setup of 2 ballast 2 new high quality bulbs and the connector wires for them
they call it a conversion kit, but since we have stock hid system all we do is cut the oe connector off the stock power leads to ballast- behind the ballast, and splice in the 2 new wires to new ballast = easy

bonus! new parts are waterproof and the ballast can be mounted right over the oe one or remove that boat anchor and mount new, or mount ballast to frame rail or other place someone has found- see other threads

just the age of system and new technology make it worth replacing
high number color is not good for seeing stuff on the road
stock 4300 is really good- 5000 adds a touch more blue to highlight road lines
6000 is way more blue than you think
8000- you have to be kidding me- purple doesn't illuminate anything... but a cops attention!

Told you that someone would be easily able to direct you to a hookup on a conversion/upgrade kit

I am selling both ballasts and both igniters (the cable thingy) on E-Bay. I spray painted the ballasts and took a picture of them and am advertising them as two ballasts and two igniters. I also advertised all cars I know of that can use this ballast, all applicable part numbers and all of the MSRP's.

So as not to mislead anybody, I twice explain in my ad that one ballast and one igniter work and that one ballast does not work but that I will include instructions on how you can "possibly" get it working again.

I set the minimum price I would accept as $35; So far the bidding is up to $51 and 21 people are still watching (i.e. many wait to bid at the end) with 3 days to go.

I bought the Morimoto kit for $160 because I was afraid of one of the cheaper units failing. I am tickled to get $51 for this old stuff to help defray my cost.

If you are a seller and have an eBay store, there is a lot of value here. You can probably get a minimum of $50 - $75 for the working ballast alone. The igniters are gravy.
