T Ho, {edit} ...thought you were talking to me, sorry. We never beat on the TL-S, and it still failed, while I use the Corvette for events, and it doesn't\.
Acura Tranny failures have nothing to do with abuse, they know it, nor did I and many others inflict any to it. Many are even 100% stock. Agreed, abuse doesn't help anything.

car wasnt fun. It didnt handle well, even all the mods and i still couldnt stand the steer torque that it had...steering didnt have a tight feel to it. The car didnt feel soild to me like the bmw does.
Also the tranny got annoying... mine never went out, but it wasnt smooth either. Its not fun driving around wondering if your tranny is gonna crap out on you. So i got rid of it before i lost any more money on it.
the materials in the bmw are quality also, but you also pay for it with it being almost 10k more than the TLS was. So it all depends on the person if the TL is worth it, but for the $$ it sure is a hot buy.

I've been looking at used 2k2 TL-S's and was actually surprised at the market value. While it looks like retail is holding in the high $20's the wholesale market is lower than I expected. Recent sales at auctions around the country have averaged in the low $20's (my parents are wholesalers so I watch the auctions weekly). I was expecting a bit more for the TL-S since it is the higher performance model, even though I read it makes up 40% of all TL's sold in '02 (anyone know how many were actually made?). In my opinion this demonstrates demand is softening. The reasons may be varied but dealers would know the tranny problems which may be why the demand in the used market is down. An Acura used car manager probably wouldn't load up on TL's knowing a blown tranny may cost him good customer will. It has been my experience that "rare" or desirable cars generally sell a bit above trade-in value but it appears the TL-S is selling right at it. I would have expected better holding power from Acura. This is as bad as the Maxima's depreciation, although both cars have next gen models due out next year.
