BS from dealer regarding warped rotors
Went to my local Acura dealership today to check on my rotors (I knew they were warped already). They told me that they were definetly warped and my brake pads were below 50% worn. Here's the kicker, they said rotors were not covered under the warrenty. I know this is BullSh!t, I only have 38k mi. on my ride. And they also had the nerve to charge me $32 for a brake check. I was told I should complain to their district service manager.

do a search for the recall/tsb/err whatever its called, and print it out next time. ive always brought that in, if you pull it out after they quote you a price it makes them look bad and will usually do the work even if its out of warranty. try doing it when other customers are within earshot

Where exactally do you find the TSB? I went to the owners link from the Acura web site and looked under recalls but nothing was there. I am interested in this because I am having the same problems and wanted to have it with me when i took my car in to be serviced.

err tsb is not "required" to be fixed but is done out of goodwill, but recalls like the rotors i believe are required i would try a search on this site or the "other" site on the matter for the best answer

TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin. It does not mean that the dealership has to do it for free. All it is is a set of instructions for a common problem on a specific model. It could be out of warranty or under warranty. However, in this case, a lot of dealerships will resurface/replace rotors and pads for free of charge on a good-will basis.

Rotors are fixed/replaced under warranty, but pads aren't if I'm not mistaken. They are a natural wear and tear item. Do the pads fall under the rotor warranty if the rotors are warped?

The type of pads used IS the cause of the rotor warpage so ya thats what the TSB is for. The warped rotor is the effect of the pad.
A good dealer WILL put the new updated pads on and resurface your rotors for FREEEEEEE....

He's right the rotors are only covered under warranty for 25k miles.

I pulled up the service bulletin regarding the rotors. So I guess I may be Sh!t out of luck for them to replace them due to the 25k warrenty on the rotors, like I said I have 38k. I guess I will go with the TRUE stop slotted rotors (gauraunteed not to warp) as recommended by my personal certified acura mechanic.

Thats news to me... I had mine done at 32k about a year ago.

I recently brought in my car for steering wheel vibration when braking. They not only replaced the pads, but also "resurfaced" the rotors under warranty. I bought my car as a CPO, I don't know if that makes a difference.

After 38,000 miles, the rotors ARE NOT covered under warranty .. i'm not surprsied by their response. I wouldn't have expected them to replace them if this was your first issue w/ the rotors. the $32.00 brake check was a bit excessive -- did you buy the car there? usually if you purchased the car there, they don't charge you for inspection fees.

So I see some of you were lucky and some were not in getting your rotors completly replaced. I did not buy the car there so I guess they didn't want to extend the courtesy. I think I will go aftermarket anyhow due to the fact that even with Acura replacements they will warp again. I'm thinking about getting the TRUE-STOP slotted rotors as suggested by my personal certified Acura mechanic that does side jobs. How hard or easy are the rotors to replace them myself. I know the brake and calipers have to be removed but what's next after that (what hardware needs to be removed from the rotor itself?)

I am having same problem again. I spoke to acura services and they indicated we are covered to 50K like warranty says. They said to mention TSB if neccessary and if they refuse to fix under warranty call client services again for dispute. This will be second time in shop for rotors for me with 32K. Im going to squeeze some new rotors outta these basturds!!

It's in the manufacturers best interest to live up to their promise of quality. Keeps them honest and leads to better product and that leads to better sales later on.
Give them hell.

Guess who I received a call from last night.......The Acura dealership doing a survey regarding my visit to them and the quality of service. I explained to them that the rotors were not replaced nor re-surfaced and still warped (I forgot to mention the BS $32 brake check to them). They told me I would receive a call from their district service manager because I was an unsatisfied customer (whom I planned on calling anyway regarding this issue). So I may get the rotors replaced in the long run (hopefully). I'll just have to wait for his call, if I don't hear anything in a couple of days I guess it will be back to the original plan of calling them directly myself. Will keep you all posted.
