Broken heated seat... what to do?

My passenger side heated seat works, but my drivers side seat doesn't heat up at all! (well, just from my butt-warmth). I was wondering if anyone else was faced with this problem (2nd gen, or any?) and if they fixed it.. and how much it cost. If its in the hundreds, i dont think i really want to worry about it. I mean... my butt warmth may just have to be good enough through the winter!

my pass one doesnt work either. Is just the part that your but goes on supposed to heat up or the whole seat? I'm pretty sure you can buy the part at the dealer but you have to take the leather off of your seat to change it out. More trouble than its worth IMO

Mine went out last year on the driver's side- $600 at the dealer to fix it because they have to remove the seat and the upholstery to get to the heating grid. A lot of $$$, but now it works real well. If it goes out again, I'll get a $20 heating cushion for the driver's seat.

The bottom and back of the driver's seat heats. Only the back of the passenger seat heats on 2000+ TLs. Yes, these are expensive to replace.

Mine still work but does anyone know what causes the failure?

I was told the grid burned out and there was a burned wire- this allows no transfer of power in the grid, and therefore, no heat. I was given my old grid after the new one was put in. The wires in the grid are pretty thin, and there was one area of the insulation that looked burned.

you have to take the seat out and UN-CLIP the leather. there is no unstitching the leather. No real instructions. but its not that hard once you get teh seat out and remove the seat rails

That's what I heard 2

Question: $101.00 for what? OEM or Aftermarket? Because, I use my heated seats all the time and I feel that one day the heat will die on me.

Whoah, wait a minute.... The seat heater on the driver side.... actually covers both the lumbar portion as well as the butt portion?

You know it's serious when you quote yourself.

I meant to say that both back and butt portions of driver seat heats. Only butt portion of passenger seat heats because of OPDS side airbag sensors.

That's sweet. I've always felt it and suspected it. Thanks

Is this true for the 3rd Gen as well?

Are you telling me I can swap the bottom portion of the sdriver seat with the passenger?! I ALWAYS wanted to do this when I passed 100k miles. It's like rotating tires...but with seats to make them wear evenly.

Ah, think about this. If you swap the bottom portion, the seat controls will be on the inside, next to the center console.

I dont want to swap the entire bottom portion....just the "leather" part. The left and right side "looks" symetrical that it might be a possibility.
