Angry Brat across the street broke my mirror!!!

Some little brat across the street broke my passenger side mirror with a fucking rock!! Now I gotta talk to her mom and get her to pay for the mirror. (She WILL pay for it!!!) My question is do I have to replace the whole mirror assembly or can jus the glass be replaced? If the glass is replaceable, how do I go about replacing it? I'm so pissed right now, I think I glared daggers through the little brat!! :angryfire

My glass cracked and I can't get just the glass on. I ordered the motor part behind the glass to compare parts with a new one to what I had left after I took off my broken mirror and everything was there. I had a tech come out and look at it (the new glass snaps into the old motor, but its loose and it only moves when pushed by hand) and he said they'd have to do it themselves and wouldn't help me out...

I've been looking at it every couple of days since January trying to figure the damn thing out, I've ordered every part from diagrams, and I have every part...just can't figure out how to snap it in correctly...so my would be to order and pay for a new piece of glass, see if you can get it on....if not, I got a quote of $225 to fix @ the dealership.

Just the glass part is broken. The motor still works fine and the mirror mount (or whatever it's called) isn't loose. Hopefully I'll be able to just replace that piece. FYI, you can purchase the entire mirror assembly at acuraautomotiveparts.org for $156 + ship.

As fun as that would be, I'd rather get my mirror paid for. Anybody with a Helms that can scan some pages regarding mirror glass replacement?

take it to the dealer, have them replace it, and sent a certified letter with a copy to the parents.
hope this gets resolved quickly and in your favor

Kinda what I was thinking. I'm going tomorrow morning to get a quote from the dealer and showing that to the kid's mom. I'm not doing them any favors, they inconvenienced me so I'm returning the favor.

Something similar happened to me. When I went to get the mirror replaced(it wasn't @ the dealership)the worker @ the shop told me that I will lose the heated mirror option, because they only sold the mirrors itself(which was $20.00 compared to $165.00@ the dealer).

So you can either go to the dealer or you can go to a glass repair shop and have them do it for you there.

UPDATE: Talked to the kid's dad and he agreed to pay me for the mirror and labor charge. Mirror was $55 and the labor was also $55. I ordered the part and got an installation quote in writing and showed it to her dad and he paid me cash. It ended up being a lot easier than I thought it would. Now I just gotta wait for the mirror to come in.

Yeah, no way I was losing that. It's too convenient in the winter time.

That's the million dollar question. My car was at the end of the driveway. She was rock fighting with our neighbor's kids and apparently (unfortunately for me) she has terrible aim. The rock went right into the mirror.

kids play football in the street in front of MY house-by my truck- several houses away from where they all live.
More than once I have found the driver outside mirror glass broken and laying next to the truck-
oddly- right after outdoor play is suddenly suspended for the day~

Then there was the neighbor who told his kids to weedeat the back yard- where they wildly swung the thing sending rocks over the fence.
Cracked my windshield- how do I know it was then?- washed the car at 6 pm- at 8 pm there was an impact crack in the glass and car never left the driveway

be warned- the crack repair expoxy stuff doesnt stay flush- it wears down and now there are marks with the wipers.
oh well- guess the glass co is going to be stimulated by my check, better them than opec

Sucks to hear kids are so stupid, at least it's getting fixed though. I had my car parked out in the driveway/on the street for probably 5 months this year, it's nice to have it safely in the garage.

Some kid threw a huge damn rock on the hood of my previous car. My neighbour saw it all and came knocking on my door. By the time I came outside, the kid and both his parents were already down the street. Well i caught up to them pretty quick. Dragged them back to my house and told them to pay up. They gave me their address and postal code and info and told me to come to their house the next day so they could pay me. I kept them there while I ran inside to check if it was the right address they gave me... nope...they gave me a fake address. Anyhow long story short I got $450 out of it...I would have settled for a lot less if it wasn't for their bad attitude.

Anyways back on topic, I think it would be easier to simply replace the whole mirror assembly. I searched on ebay and there were a lot of used mirrors in good condition.

Well they paid up for the part & labor so I ordered the mirror and I'm gonna have Acura put it on.

Finally got my mirror replaced! Up next is the 105K service. Acura quoted on my service invoice $851. Sounds pretty decent coming from the dealer. What prices have any of you gotten from the dealer for this service?

Have them give you a detailed list of parts and labor to be performed for what prices
Some places will give a low number and not include several things.--then jack you up once the car is there
You want the valves adjusted IMO
and new coolant hoses and clamps and such-
new belts of course and tensioner pullies- better to replace now than have a massive failure when the tensioner fails in a year or 2 IMO

I am guessing you already did an egr ports cleanout and replace plugs and cabin and engine air filters yourself- and do your own oil changes- all that cuts cost for you

The only thing they mentioned in their brief estimate was the belts and the water pump. I'll have to go back in later and ask them to be specific of what they include. I haven't done the EGR ports, but I did do the plugs, cabin filter, K&N air filter, and I always do my own oil changes. I've got the UR pulley on the way so I'll be doing the 105K service some time soon!

My dealership quoted my $1685, so I would say your price sounds a bit better...
