i tried the perelli p7000 and dunlop w10's and now i got yokohama avs sport and by far these are the quietest and best handling in wet or dry IMO. they are all good tires tho i dont think you can really go wrong.

yeah, the P7000's offer a great ride, great handling and as a bonus, they're all-season! You can't go wrong with Pirelli.

How well do the P7000s handle in the snow? (referred to the gent from Ontario, of course) I'm planning to purchase a TL-S next month and keep hearing that the stock tires suck in inclement weather. This would be a problem here in the Cleveland, OH area (50-60 inches of snow/year, and only 180 sunny days/year).

Is there such a thing as a GOOD performance tire that is also a GOOD all-season (read OK in snow) tire?

Thanks.

I use the Pirelli P6000 Sport Veloce on my CL and find them to be a great balance between performance and all-weather handling. They seem to be holding their tread better than the stock Michelins, too, which is a bit of a surprise.

I've replaced my stock tires with Pirellis on my last several cars and have always been happy with them.

TLs have a lot of road noise. They come from the tires right? Would this problem go away if I switch to Pirelli?

the P7000's are very noisy...plus the tread wear on those suck...had them previously...the Kumho's I have are by far, much more quiet than the Pirelli's

I kinda leaning toward AVS Sport, too... they are very well balanced all around... P7000 isn't as impressive, and Pirelli tires don't wear well at all... they wear out pretty fast... As for stock tires... they simply don't grip, PERIOD....

Neuronbob I hear you bro. Been there. I feel it is best to get a dedicated snow tire on your stock wheels for winter and aftermarket wheels with perf. tires for summer. Winter tires are cheap plus think about it nice wheels in winter---- salt, curbs, no way leave them in the garage.

So...um....how much are these tires. I heard they are really expansive. I need the price for a set, not just one of them...THX :p

Just to throw a little salt in the game, I have to give a thumbs up to my Toyo T1-S tires. This past week it rained five out of seven days here. It was the first time it's rained a lot and really hard since I got my wheels and tires. I was already impressed by the handling of the tires in dry weather; and I am equally impressed with their performance in the heavy rain. And someone mentioned tread pattern; well, check these out!

Performance-wise....

Dunlop SP9000
Pirelli PZero
Bridgestone S03 Pole Position

Keep in mind you'll definitely want to go to a wider tire, 225 to get the performance you want. 215 choices are pretty slim.

My uncle has a M-B SL500 w/ Pirelli P7000's....I think....I can't remember b/c I last drove it in the summer time. But I know they were Pirelli's. I took it out for 2 hours w/ my cuz on mixed driving conditions. The noise level wasn't bad, the ride was good and handling on that thing was amazing. I could not even get it to chirp. My dad's Jag comes w/ P4000's and they're very comfortable, they're all-season.....now, as for stickiness, I haven't tried yet.

I personally like Bridgestone (Pole Positions S-02's). But then again I never dealt with snow...they were on my 300ZX which didn't move in snow for obvious reasons. I actually found a set after being discountinued for my aftermarket rims which are on durring the spring, summer & fall. I have heard that the S-03's are even better, I couldn't pass up the price though.

I agree with Bridgestones choice, I'm a new convert. I've had Dunlops: okay, Pirelli's: good & of course Michelins: suck. Then I got my wife some Bridgestone Pontenze RE950's H-Rated and they are the best tires I've driven so far. Grip, Quiet, straight line tracking, etc.

With the better Tread Wear rating (vs. S-02) I'm definitely going with the S-03's next spring. Unless the Pirelli P7 turns out to be the b@lls...

well, it's really tough. getting ultra sticky tires means you will wear them out quicker than others. and then there is the size thing...not all brands are available for all sizes (yet).

if i was not trying to stay on a budget, i would have gotten the bridgestone s-03s just to test them out and see for myself.

Dude, what side of Cleveland do you live on??? I think we're lucky to see even 100 sunny days a year, and I'm on the West side!

During WWII, they built a ball bearing plant up the road in Sandusky because it had 300+ cloudy days a year and they figured that it would be tough to bomb through the clouds!

I run Artic Alpines from Nov 15 through March 31. Good tire in the snow, though a bit noisy when it's wet.

Hey CH, they're just averages, my friend.... and I remember one year where there were *really* 300 cloudy days in Cleveland....
I'm a far south/east sider, where last winter I actually got *60* inches in my driveway--you're lucky to be a west-sider.... Good thing I like seasons.

By the way, where'd you get your TL-S? And did you get a good deal?

The RE730s are 225/45/17 - I know some people have put them on the stock rim, but is this an ok thing to do? Will I get unusual wear and tear on them, or have a greater risk to tire problems? Most importantly, is it safe? I am just about to get new tires and just want to double check.

We drove to Columbus to get ours last June - Motorcars and Park in Akron just didn't have any in stock. We paid $700 under sticker - not a great deal, but pretty much average for the MidWest.

As for clouds in Cleveland, i'll take weather like these past couple days all year round. Who needs snowtires when it's sunny and 60 in late November??!! (got a hunch it won't last)
