Which brake pads?

So i gave my car in for service, and i told them my brakes squeak. They called me back and said the car has aftermarket brake pads on it, but wouldnt say which. She also said that the aftermarket pads are worse quality than Honda ones. I was quoted 320 for replacement of all pads....

Should i go with Honda pads or other Aftermarket ones?

Thanks

whatever you do, DO NOT let them replace your pads and charge you $350!!! this is a $60-$70 job you can do yourself for all 4 pads.

alot of people here like the EBC Greenstuff pads. some prefer MetalAxxis pads. personally, i have Akebono Ceramic pads. love em. alot of stopping power, very little dust. do a search, there are tons of threads on pads. the short answer from me though, is yes, aftermarket pads = better braking. not that honda pads are bad, aftermarket is just better.

but if you have the slightest mechanical inclination you can do this yourself. don't let the stealer rip you off for 4 sets of brake pads. and depending on the brand of pad the ones on your car now may, in fact, be inferior to the honda pads. tough to say without knowing which brand they are.

EBC's are the way to go. stay away from AXXIS!!! they killed my rotors. too harsh and way too much dust buildup. and honda pads do not have stopping power at ALL. once you get an aftermarket pad on your car you'll know what we mean. plus it'll save you 200 dollars. trust me.

I went with the Hawk HPS pads and am really happy with them. They dont produce that much dust and stop the car really well.

I'm still trying to absorb that $350.00 quote - They said that with a straight face?? Then went home and slept???? Front pads can be bought for $50-70.00 depending on what you buy, rears are less. 2 hours, 3 tops, and you've changed them yourself. Honda pads aren't bad for 'normal' use, but there are better ones out there. I'm no expert, but when I replace mine, which will be soon, I've been sold on the Green Stuff...mostly from what I've seen on this site.

Hey,

Thanks so much for all your help - I knew that 350 was a little much and i told them no. But ill look around for probably Greenstuff, from what ive heard, when it comes time to change them. Thanks again for all the help though.
