Brake Pad Suggestions/Questions?

I just got an 03 TL S and would like to upgrade the brake pads and rotors. What are you guys running? I would like increased stopping, but this car is not driven all that aggressively (it is a daily driver). I would like something better than stock, but something that also has decent longevity........additionally, I would like something with low dust (don't we all)...haha

Any comments, suggestions, reviews, etc. are appreciated.

Thinking about Axxis Ultimates or Hawk HPS pads......and probably just some Brembo Blanks (or maybe slotted - not drilled).

Low dust and awesome stopping falls under the heading of military intelligence

The Hawk HPS - Brembo combo is a good upgrade

I like the RacingBrake rotor- Hawk HP+ pads set-up on my 01
www.racingbrake.com for tech info on why they cool better and will take an aggessive pad without absurd levels of rotor wear

To reduce brake dust
When doing the brakes- wash the wheels and give them 3 coats of wax inside and outside of rim
That helps deflect some of the stuff-

I hear you, but a man can dream, can't he?

So the racingbrake rotor is considerably better than the brembo (price is about double)? I don't have an issue paying if there is that big of a difference, but as I said, this is a daily driver, so a little improvement is not that important to me. Even if the brembos wear quicker, I can go through two sets for the price of one racingbrake set. I am assuming the wear won't be 2-1.

Thanks for the suggestion, I was planning on doing that.

On my last car, I had dark gunmetal rims, so the brake dust was not AS noticable. However, on my TL I am currently sporting the OEM wheels, so the dust will most definitely be an "issue".

The improvement I get as a daily driver and fun run car, and the wife has used in panic stops on the freeway, is amazing!
She brought the last car home 2 feet shorter so I was determined to buy the best thing I can find.
Do the tech reading and call Marcus 1-949-295-1668
Acurazine members get a special combo deal from him
You can go thru 2 sets of pads and not have to resurface the rotors and not
pick up any shake or vibration- thats some serious alloy in the rotors
They are worth every penny and the first time you go on a mountain fun run
you will learn to left foot brake- right foot gas, thats how hard and late you can trust the brakes to work
The 2nd time you go for a mountain fun run- you will be able to sucker Miatas way too deep into the corner all while you still have 10 percent more braking left if needed!

Of course- this is just my opinion and pretty much anyone who has the same rotors
Your mileage may vary
I am not putting down any other product- just love the ones I selected

And flush/replace the brake fluid when you do the brakes and every year after that

Also, one last thing..........HPS or HP+?

You said have the +, can you compare the two? What about their performance ceramic?

Do you have slotted rotors or blanks? Thoughts?

I am not looking for overkill here, just want to do it right the first time.

Testing and extended real world experience has resulted in a change in the suggested pad for the UP- Ultimate Performance rotor from RacingBrake.

The HP + (Plus) is a more aggressive pad than the HPS High Performance Street
Usually people use them for track days and you can still drive home on them

Because of the special metallurgy, the RB rotors handle the HP+ perfectly and do not experience the severe rotor wear that other brands would with this pad

Ceramics are the OE type and have less noise, less dust and less GRIP
Properly bedded Hawk pads are not noisy by any means

I think I am going to be happy with the HPS, I think the HP+ is overkill for me, at this point anyways.

I've had the Brembo drilled/slotted Fr & Rr rotors w/EBC Greenstuff pads for about 45K miles now with no issues and love em. The car stops noticeably better than the OEM rotors and pads. From what I read Axxis Ultimate pads make "ALOT" of dust and is pain in the ass if you want to keep your wheels clean.

BTW: I have an 03 TL-S and the brake fade is alot less than the stock setup. I live in the mountains with lots of twisty roads.

Thanks, CMAS.....actually, the EBC Greenstuff pads were the third one I was considering, but I haven't been able to find anyone who actually had them on a TL (besides you).

How is the dust with your EBC pads? Noise?

If you get the RB rotors- the HP+ pads are the recommended
If you use other rotors then the Hawk HPS are good for you

If you are looking for OE replacement rotors ROTORA slotted discs are a nice option, accompanied by ROTORA ceramic pads or even EBC Greenstuffs for low dust. Definitely stay away from Axxis Ultimates b/c they are dust-prone.

Dust is minimal and haven't had any noise at all. That's another bad thing about Axxis Ultimates...read they squeak and squeal too . I did just put on the OEM pads for my inspection a couple weeks back since the EBC's were pretty worn down. It's only been about 500 miles with the OEM's but the dust and stopping is good with those too. I didn't order a new set of EBC's yet....the OEM's were like new and am tight on $$ right now. Someone decided to smash my rear end in at a stop light about month ago and the $500 deductible + some high dollar unexpecteded home expenses have things tight right now. I guess the reimbursement for an deductible takes up to 3 months for the investigation .
