Is this Brake combo any good?

Hi,

I am thinking about replacing all 4 rotors and pads all at once.

Option 1

Rotora Cross drilled & slotted rotors with Axxis ultimate pads

Option 2

Brembo OE Rotors (blanks?? or drilled & slotted???) with Axxis ultimate pads

what do you guys think??

I have heard a lot about Brembo, Rotora, and Axxis. Now the question is if I should go slotted, drilled, or combo??

I am looking for ANY improvements over stock crap AND this needs to last me longer than stock crap.

Anything need modification in this?? cuz one thing i keep hearing is about Lubricating shims or something??

welcome to the source of real info- throw away anything someone else told you, it was probably wrong when applied to a TL!
Rotora makes its own pads to match the rotors, and there are way better pads than axis
RacingBrake makes an awesome slotted rotor and in-house pad series

Well if he isn't hard on them, or doesn't subject them to severe conditions why spend more $$ than necessary? Maybe he has other things he'd prefer to spend $ on.... just worth.

because its your BRAKES man. There is no such thing as spending too much money on your brakes. Never heard anybody complain cause their brakes work too well. On my 2G I spent plenty of money on an upgrade in brakes. I use the HE$$ out of them. On my wife's 3G, I spent a little bit less, but same manufacturer (RacingBrake) for a brake upgrade. Well improved over "stock crap." I get excited every time I have to brake a bit more than usual.

You think that the above poster drives easy, you should see her Enough to put you to sleep! Although, in talking to her just this afternoon, I explained to her "you put your life on the brakes every time you use them. Not the place to save a buck." Her response to me was, "yeah, they worked really well a couple times in a panic!" now, tell me if I should have spent less? No way, man!

Do yourself a favor and purchase wisely. Could make a big difference some time when you need them.

thats right~
my wife comes home saying- wow!!! they work really good-
I know that means it was another 80 mph- not looking ahead- and then nothing but brake lights ahead!
its all brakes and big eyes~ and the car slows very quickly- enough to put you in the seat belts--- with an equivilant fast reduction of speed to 20 mph

the car stops 30 feet before you expect- which means,,, thats NOT a foot into the truck of the car ahead--
IMO thats a great thing!!! and worth every penny and hour I have put in making the best brakes I can on the TL. She brought the old maxima home 2 feet shorter 1 day....

Good pads and good rotors make a differance regardless of how you normally drive- its those all to common panic situations that you can count the differance in dollars spent, in feet between you and the next car

Stay away from the axxis ultimates. You will hate them. They produce more dust than a coal factory and arent the best when comes to braking. There are better pads out there.

I just got the Axxis Ultimates and I HATE them! I'm actually thinking of getting different pads and considering the Axxis' a loss. I picked them up because they were on clearance on a web site. They are DUSTY and they are noisy! The braking isn't bad, better then OEM pads, but the squealing and roughness just isn't worth the cheap price.
btw, I have Brembo Blanks with the Axxis Ultimates...at least for now.

The Brembo rotors are better than stock. I have 68,000 on the stock set up now and they still work fine. A little sign of warping but not much. Still a good amout of miles for stock rotors. Acura replaced them at 30,000 miles= Rotors and Pads due to warping.
I'm happy they lasted this long.

Good deal, maintaining distances between you and the next guy saves your brakes and your nerves.

I'm satisfied with my Brembo blanks and Akebono Proact ceramics. Not the best money can buy, but I was looking for a combo of decent stopping power, no noise and low dust.

Racing Brake FTW.

RB Slotted fronts with ET500 pads on the TL-S = Great combo.

I am using Akebono and they are a very decent pad. Not too much noise, good stopping and from what I can see not much brake dust. If you have the money then yeah get a racing brake setup but if you don't brembo blanks with akebono is a very decent setup that will stop the car well.

lol

should do a poll of which rotors. haha

if it weren't for 01tl4tl, i would've gone with Rotora Slotted rotors... but then after 01tl4tl always saying RacingBrake, i wouldn't be so brake happy these days.

gawd i love my legend calipers + RB rotors.

brake check with my friends in the back smashing their faces into the headrests... lol

Research and care during the install are the key to quiet brakes.

Centric premium rotors & Akebono Street Performance pads. Does anyone else have these pads on their TL?

Thanks

ROTORA rotors and ROTORA ceramic pads are a good combo.

As was said, Axxis Ultimates are noisy and dusty.

Check out the RacingBrake pads on the Centric rotors- those are a good price rotor and these pads are awesome
get ET300 if grandma rides with you all the time
get ET500 if you drive it like a sports car

I have nothing bad to say about rotora- even helped a ziner install them on a 05-S and they worked great. My preferance was for something else, so thats what I have and can speak with fact on how they work.

I'm currently using akebono street performance pads with ate rotors. So far, I'm really pleased. No noise, no dust, and really good grip, even cold.

Brembo blanks with hawk HPS pads here, wish I had splurged a bit more for some slotted rotors, but the pads made a decent difference in stopping power. Perhaps I'll upgrade to legend calipers and SS lines for more stopping power and better feel though. Also, the Hawk pads produce very little dust and are only noisy at first, the noise was gone right after bedding them in basically.

I have the Rotora slotted rotors with the Rotora ceramic pads and while they were great for awhile, ended up being no better than stock pads/rotors in terms of durability. After 35k miles of NORMAL driving/stopping, they are completely warped.

I will be looking for an alternative in the near future as well.

I went with Centric rotors (front only) and EBC Greenstuff pads all around. Braking is a little better than stock when cold...noticeably better when heated up. I bedded the pads properly, but the rotors still warped slightly after only 1000 miles on a long trip. It's now been about 4000 miles since then, and the warping has not gotten worse, in fact it straightened out a little after I did a few "heavy burns" from 90 mph. It's now only ever so slightly noticeable (my dad drove the car, and he did not notice the warpage...and he's GREAT at noticing these things).

I'm very easy on the brakes. I don't subscribe to the "use the brakes to change your speed" theory. I actually tried that method when I got these brakes, using shorter and harder bursts of braking, rather than lighter longer "drags", and that's when they warped! My theory is: it's not the heat of a continuous "drag" that warps them, it's the repeated cycles of cold to hot (the "...change your speed" method) that does it. Other than those "heavy burns" I mentioned, I've gone back to my gentle braking method, and haven't had a problem since.

Can someone just make a recommendation on which pads are best to use for standard rotors which come on my 05 6MT? I'm about to get the standard rotors "zero cut" (whatever the hell that means) and if I'm going to have to drop a couple hundy on pads I want to get very good ones that produce litle dust.

Don't use EBC Greenstuff. It is very dusty. Akebona is the pad of choice. I regreted after I replaced Akebono with EBC Greenstuff.

RacingBrake doesnt make rear rotors for our cars? I checked out their site and only found front rotors, is this correct?

Check MrHeelToe
http://heeltoeauto.com/COMBO-SPECIALS-c-1804.html
Since the rears only do 30 percent of the braking, they dont really need the mettalurgy and special cooling of the fronts.
You can get a rear set that also fits other cars- BUT the 2 retaining screw holes do not line up- it doesnt matter- you dont need them anyway- the wheel is what holds everything on~!
Centric makes a good set for the back that are a visual match to the side vane pattern and are in use by many here
I like RB pads with RB rotors

iirc- this months secret code on heeltoe is acurazinerocks
