Cool Bought TL-S w/ Nav. on Good Deal!

After sending out emails to about 10 dealers around my home (upto 500 miles away) I got a deal from a dealer in Wisconsin (330 miles away). I'm picking this up on Friday evening.

I basically went off the TLSDave's price he posted but I didn't quite get there on the car price but I was able to get some discounts on dealer options. Basically is was 5% over invoice on all items. At least that's what they told me.

Here are the details:
TL-S w/ Nav Black/Black $31,820
Body Kit
Spoiler
Wheel Locks
Sun Roof Visor
Gold Kit
Floor Mats
2 Sets of Key

Total $34,273

Sales person's name was Honore Dowell (she told me she was a rookie, take it easy on her guys. She was very, very nice to deal with. She's even coming in on her day off to see me pickup the car) and you can reach her at:
email: hdowell@zimbrick.com
phone: 800-382-3936

I told her that I would pass on her name and she didn't mind at all so here you go. Tell her Dan told you about the deal (I'm not getting paid for this).

Jon,
After seeing your car I had get one. It was time to replace my 92 3000GT anyway. Now I have to figure out how to sell my current car.

Thanks for all the pictures you've posted to this board. It has help greatly in making my decisions.

Way to go driver. Maybe some of the skeptics here will start to believe the price I paid. Sounds like you actually did better than I did because I paid $31,579 for the car plus wheel locks, sunroof visor, mudguards and burlwood knob. The spoiler and body kit, alone, are more than these items. Congratulations!

P.S. The floor mats should have come standard. Did you get something special?

tlsdave,
Thanks for the info you posted. My local dealers didn't want to budge at a from the MSRP. They keep telling me that they can't keep the car in the lot, which I don't believe. But every time I've stopped by they had some TL-S available for immediate delivery!

Actually when Honoer first replied to my email she gave me the MSRP then I told her I wouldn't pay MSRP and gave her your price of $31,230 then she came back with $31,820.

Keys and Floor mats were included in the car price.

This is very good news for me. I live in the Milwaukee area and deal with Mike at acura of Brookfield. I bought a 1999 TL/Navi,2001 TL/Navi and I ordered a 2002 type s/Navi back in feb.The 1999 I bought used the 2001 I bought new and they gave me a great trade $ as well as $1000.00 off the window sticker.I call all the dealerships in a 500 mile radius to see if anyone would beat the price and not a dealership in sight would come down in price. So when I order the 2002 pricing was not available. I'm so excited that you received such a good deal.My aegean blue navi will not be here until 4/20/01 and I can't wait
much longer

Bill,
You should be lucky to have such nice dealer close to you. All of the dealer near my home are bunch of greedy sales men. They want MSRP for all cars and charge $34 for simple oil changes.

One other thing that surprised me was that Brookfield dealer had all of the accessories on hand. I would have thought these things were ordered as they got orders.

driver,
the reason all the accessories are available here is because this dealership is known for it's mods.I think that it's the only one in the midwest.

Scotty, I want everyone to get as good a deal as they possibly can. The internet salesman from whom I bought the car knew I was getting a good deal and he asked me to keep the information local. I agreed. Perhaps some peoples’ ethics don’t extend past a written contract but mine do.

I paid $31,579 for the car and four options. I know I could have done better on the options but I had talked myself into instant gratification and went to the dealership prepared to accept their counter-offer, which was about $200 more than my offer. When they accepted my original offer, I kept my mouth shut, quit grinding, and took a smaller discount on the options that perhaps I could have.

You are wrong about Acura of the Desert and several other dealers in SoCal. These cars are not moving as hoped and my deal was real as I expect was janda-janda’s and driver’s. I suggest you hone your negotiating skills or at least temper any visible enthusiasm for the car. I made my offer, said my Camry was paid for and running fine and I was prepared to wait until September, if necessary. Do the same and then walk away. Don’t be surprised if you get a phone call in a day or two. I sincerely hope that you receive the best deal possible.

I will be at the Ontario airport on Saturday. If you wish to meet me there, I will show you my contract with the provision that you, too, keep it private.

It doesn't include tax since I have to take care of the tax back in my state.

Did you call them?

TLS-Dave -

Not doubting your price, but unless you signed a contract with the dealer saying you wouldn't reveal who you dealt with I'm very skeptical about your info. How could I not be? If its so good why don't you tell us who you dealt with like our buddy in Wisconsin? Dealers want to sell cars don't they? If they do then I would think they would take the same stance as the new salesman in WI.

If you do live in Palm Desert you may have gone to Cathederal City Acura or you may not have. If you did, they are not coming off MSRP. I know there are 20 Acura Dealers in So Cal alone so you may have gone somewhere else.

Please don't misunderstand me. I just want the same deal or close to it. Who wouldn't right? You've done us all a great service by posting invoice info and doing the calculations, but the true service you could do for all of us in So Cal is to JUST TELL US WHERE YOU GOT IT!

Proof is in the pudding. I just don't understand what the big mystery is.

This is the MSRP for all the items you bought:
TL-S w/ Nav Black/Black $33,230
Body Kit $1,379
Spoiler $699
Wheel Locks $63
Sun Roof Visor$81
Gold Kit $788
Floor Mats $85
2 Sets of Key free
Destination Charge: $480
Total $36,805 MSRP.
You paid $34,273.
You saved $2,532
If you'd have paid Invoice for the Car and MSRP for all the options, it would have cost you $33,525 or $748 less than you paid.
$31,526 is what I calculate to be 5% over invoice so lets say you paid that and MSRP for all the options. That would cost you $34,621 which is $348 more than you paid.

Red face

Just like tlsdave, I didn't hassle with the options. They simply told me it was 5% over cost and I believed them. Their price for the options are different then what you have. Actually every dealer I got quote from had different option prices.

Lawrence,
What invoice price are you using on your calculation?

CarDirect.com has invoice price of $30,430, which is same as the dealers quoted invoice price, for TL-S w/ Navi and 5% over that is $31,951.

I'm happy with my deal. All I wanted was fair deal and not MSRP. I just wish this dealer was my local dealer. I would have gone back to this dealer for car maintenance also.

Note that the $30,430 includes the destination charge of $480. Also remember that dealer cost is the invoice LESS the holdback. I offered and received 5% over dealer cost. Happy hunting, folks.

Barry, that looks like a pretty good deal. Do you know if they discounted from MSRP? Also, do you know the money factor?

Steve,

Lease construction is such a shell came I tend to focus on the bottom line not how the dealer got there. We started at $505 per month for 39 months with $999 cap cost reduction tax excluded. I figure I got at least $2,500 off with the dealer paying 6% NJ tax, the $549 lower cap cost reduction, and $200 ashtray/lighter inclusion. Not sure about the positive impact of the 9 month shorter lease term but it's probably substantial too. The dealer did say that the initial March residuals are waaaay inflated to support the 2002 launch and dropping in April. I leased an MDX Touring/Navi ($40K MSRP) in January from the same dealer for $588/39 Months/12K per Year, NJ Tax Included, $999 Cap Cost Reduction which, believe it or not, represents a great deal on an MDX.

BarryH: How much did you come out of pocket (and the breakdown of those costs, if possible) for each of those leases?

Thanks!

TL-S: $450 Cap Cost, $530 First Payment, $550 Refundable Security Deposit, $252 Title Registration = $1,782

MDX: $800 Cap Cost, $588 First Payment, $550 Refundable Security Deposit, $252 Title Registration = $2,190

Don't fret about the price - you still got a great car. I just traded a 98 GS400 for the TL-S and I don't regret it. The S is better than the GS300 in most respects. My GS400 was faster, but that is about it. The S is more fun to drive at a much better price. Enjoy your car - I love mine!
