Bought me some Silicone Wipers...

I installed them tonight....I didn't get the Piaa's....you're paying for the name over there, couldn't justify paying more than $20 per wiper when you can get the wipers from SSP(Specialty Silicone products), their site was listed before on TL.com, if anyone wants it, e-mail or PM me.. I paid $12.99 for each wiper, complete with the frame and all attachments, took 2 seconds to install, and so far, by dousing the windshield with hose water it's a smooth, chatter free, streak free wipe, let's see how it is in real time rainy weather, which NY should be getting tonight and tomorrow... I will keep you all updated..

Premium wipers that don't streak on a TL I don't believe it, it can't be! lol
This upcoming rain will be a good test but only time will tell for sure. Do they look any different?

They look the same, the blade itself feels more foam-like than rubber, the blade edge that wipes is a little thicker too...

Hey Shoofin'TL

Since you work at Lexus of Manhattan, any chance you can find out if the yellow reflectors they put in the fogs of the IS and GS series will fit the fogs of a TL-S?

The main problem I feel with windshield wipers IMO, is the dirt/grit that eventually settle between the blade and the glass when its not raining. Then we turn them on when needed and it squegees(sp?) loaded with dirt, you get the picture. Most streaks are caused by grit stuck on the blade as it's wiping which also accelerates it's wear IMO and once the blade is pitted, it won't wipe good. Wipe/clean them often but thats a PITA...ahhh anyway I'm interested how those blades Perform. Maybe there more durable.

I guess cleaning them every week isn't gonna solve the problem. After all, when we drive, theres still plenty of crap splashed on us from the cars in front anyway. No matter. I'd like to know how these silicone wipers are like.

Thumbs up

I have had these blades about a month now and I am very satisfied with them. IMHO, they are worth their price. The rain just disappears off the windshield. No chatter or streaks.

I am anxious to try them when it snows. Then we'll see how good (or bad) they really are.

Wow that was pretty fast shipping Ed. Waiting on reviews in actual rainfall, and not the garden hose.

I wonder if these silicone wipers would last in the sun better than the OEM wipers? Here in socal a set of wipers last through the winter but every fall need to be replaced since they are stiff.

What i have noticed as a problem is fogging inside the windows unless I keep the AC going. Any suggestions other than keeping the AC going?

Shoof: what are the lengths for the TL wipers?

stevebo: Silicone wipers would definitely last longer in the summer (and winter) cause silicone is impervious to UV, unline rubber. Also, silicone doesn't get brittle when it gets cold.

Fog in the windows: nope, the reason fog forms on the inside of the car is that the warmer air in the car can carry more moisture than cold air outside. When the warm air touches the cold glass it cools, and water condenses out of it. The only way to prevent that is either to warm the glass (rear window defrost) or lower the humidity of the warm air until it doesn't condense any more (i.e. turn off recirculation and turn on the A/C).

Here's the link:

You can order them online. I think they make sizes for most cars. I know they do not carry a 28 inch blade

why would you need a 28" blade? The TL's are 24" and 19"..

I clean them too but I use a little GOO OFF on a paper towel after 3 or 4 wipes the cloth no longer turns black and they don't streak. It works well.

Do you think the gray color wipers would look okay on a Silver TL? I guess you cant go wrong with black, but I think it would be cool to have a different color.

i got the wipers for my dad's 2000 TL, but the passenger side on is a bit too long. They sent me a 19in bit it is about 1/2in longer than the stock one. The right passenger side blade hangs off the winshield when installed. Did you have this problem as well?
