Bose power?
Does any one know the actual power numbers of our stock system. I have read a couple of different posts stating 190-200 watts, but when I looked on our official web site it stated that the 2003 TL comes with a 150 watt 5 speaker system. Also if anyone knows how is the power distributed. I know that the sub has its own amp that it is independent of the head unit. Does anyone else wonder why they did not add seperate tweeters to our system to add the clarity to a luxury level vehicle? I do not know about you guys, but I would rather have the extra tweeters than a sub. I will take dynamic range over booming bass any day. T I A(Thanks In Advance).

The bose (blose) system in the TL was set up pretty wierd. First you have the head unit. A low level speaker signal goes out of the HU to an out board EQ, where the high frequency is boosted, because our paper speakers have no tweaters, and the EQ also creates the front/rear channel. Then a high level signal goes back out of the EQ, and back in to the HU, then the HU has the actual high level speaker outputs. Think of the EQ as an inline booster. Then it goes out to the paper 1 ohm speakers. The sub has its own SUM and common output from the HU, which goes in to the sub amp behind the back seat, its a 100 watt tiny little thing, where it then goes out to the sub, and for some reason, another line from the sub goes back in to the amp... Havent figured that one out yet.
When i had my aftermarket system installed, i opted to keep the HU because i wanted a KVT-911DVD, and thats close to $2,000. So after research on this site, I got all the wiring diagrams and how to do it perfectly. Do a search on "EQ bypass revisited". Basically Iggy and Southbound say to use their process to loop the EQ and HU inputs'outputs back in to eachother, and tap the high level coming out of the HU. I didnt do that, i wanted a clean low level signal to play with. I have a little bit of engine whine because of that though. I also bypassed the factory sub amp, as it was causing funky problems with the new subs. Basically i used the JL 500/1 and 300/4 to convert my 1 ohm signals in to what it needed to power the new speakers. Now my system is so rockin.
If you want tweaters, gotta replace speakers. To replace speakers, you gotta have an amp to convert signal, or the cheap $30 bose converter that drops sound quality.
There are a few speakers and subs they talk about that will work as a direct swap, but it still wont sound right IMO.
The bose system in the Acura's are decent, though lacking power if you want it real loud, but it does an OK job.
You just gotta deal with it unless you wanna swap pretty much everything...

The system is quite fine sounding for most, but people who want to blow out their eardrums, it will not do. The car is mostly for 35 and up people. There are a lot of young people here, who just need more. This system is more than adequate. If not, get a new system or pay more for a different car.

To answer some of your question & maybe someone else can chime in with the other parts that Iam not sure about. From some of my old TL paperwork this is what I am sure about. The 2000 TL has a 180-watt audio system. The Bose Nd woofer located in the rear window has its own seperate 100-watt amplifier.
