body kit dilemma... need some suggestions

Hey guys,

I was on the phone with Tim from Ray Laks Acura about ordering the oem body kit for my '99 TL in Heather Mist Metallic (99 or maybe 00 only color). He told me the front can be ordered from acura, but the sides and back will be need to be stripped and repainted to my color.

Price = $976.52 shipped

If it was still the 830~ that some of you guys paid then I can cough out the $... but now that its 140ish bucks more it has become too much for a poor college student like me to handle. I asked him if he can lower the price just by a TAD bit. No luck.

I know the 99-01 kit is ultra rare (especially in my color) so if I want to get it I better order soon. I've checked a local dealer and they ran out ages ago.

My other option is to spend $601.75 for the Wings West kit unpainted and find a local shop for paint. The problem is I don't know how much it would be for that... although I believe I can get an estimate by showing the shops a pic of the kit.

I plan to drive this car until I am able to buy my own... which wouldn't happen until I am at least 25, 26 years old, optimistically. I love the car so honestly I don't mind spending money on it.

And personally, I like the look of both kits. But say I would to choose between the two I would pick OEM. The back of the WW is sweet is hell tho, must admit.

Option 1: Save up + borrow money to get oem kit in the next 6 weeks.
Option 2: Take it easy, save up, order WW kit and get it painted.
Option 3: I am poor. I can't afford it. Don't buy things you can't afford. Photoshop the oem kit on my car and be happy.

Thanks guys.

hey i suggest you look at ebay... the 99-01 TL kits tend to pop up a lot..
i actually got my OEM 02 Kit from this guy on ebay from canada for $6xx shipped... everything came perfect.
i doubt it will be your color though, but for like 400-500 shipped + paint it would still be cheaper.
let me know how it goes.

Yeah i would have thought the same thing. Well now that its a mismatch I will need to get it stripped and repainted anyway. Since DAVERUBINO said he got his kit painted for 300 that should be about how much I will be paying on top of the price of winning this auction.

Hmm... opionline.com isnt showing up. I tried a google search with opionline and opi online... nothing showed up?

Thanks for the replies you guys

nice~

I asked the guy if he could color match to heather mist and this is his reply:
"While I did have heather mist to color code a black set would be $ 285.00 in addition. It may be more economical to have it done where you live. Thank you"
He's right.... seems like he's a pretty honest guy.

I am thinking about checking out the scrapyard on monday or tuesday to try my luck. if not then i'll have to decide before the auction ends.

In case anyone is interested, I just hopped over to the local junkyards this morning and found absolutely no TLs around~ went to like 6 of them, too.

Anyway, I am currently working on a deal with the guy who's selling the kit on ebay. I'll keep everyone updated as it goes along.
