Bmw M3?

My dad and I sold our Dry Cleaners chain to someone and now I have a little money for spending. I went to the nearest dealer and asked about the M3 and was wondering.....Would anyone of you ever wait 4 years for a car? If you purchased that car, what would you or should you do with the TL-S? I didn't put money down for the M3 yet, still thinking about it. Gosh! Hmmmm....... Oh and did I mention, the dealer is charging $54,000! It's a beauty though! What other cars does everyone else have? See I want a four door and a sports car in my garage...........

Cool

You could get a new Z06 Corvette (with the 5.6 liter?). I know it's not the same as an E46 M3, but dang... for a pushrod V*, it kicks *ss. Enough torque to knock out your fillings. Go take one for a test drive.

This months Car and Driver tests the Z06 against the BoxterS against the M3. The Vette won all the track events, but the editors all picked the M3 as their winner

Sorry, I need 4 drs - it'll have to be the M5. I'll try this tonight at dinner: $75K isn't too much to spend on a new car, is it honey??

A Bimmer M5 is gonna cost you a lot more than 75k. More like 90k OTD or even more. As for me, I'm gonna be taking a real good look at the G35 when it comes out. The M3 is sweet (haven't seen any new ones yet tho ) but with that kind of a hot car you'll be paying a premium over it. BMW is only importing what, 3000 of them? In that money range I think I would look at the C32 AMG also...

Wait 4 years for a car?????????

Never.

By that time who knows what else would be out that I may want instead, and that M5 may be within reach within that time span. Usually when I shop for a car, I want it sometime in the near future. Unless its a collectible or something like that that wait is ridiculous

Acutally you can buy M5 at sticker right now. No wait. Even in bay area, dealer are more willing to deal now due to economic slow down.

HA HA. An S4 with a chip is an M3 killer? Sorry pal. S4 with chip won't touch an E46 M3 in speed or handling.

Actually, Chipped S4 with decent exhaust is already as fast as stock M5/E55 AMG.... I can't see why an S4 with Stage2/Stage3 can't hang with E46 M3, or even beat it....

Chipping can give boost S4's figure up to 310hp/350lb-ft easy, which is close to M3 in HP, but beats M3 hands down in torque...

I almost bought one before the TL-S........The car I drove was a piece of ****. At Phil Long Imports they let me take one for the night, and sure it was fun for a while, but going over bumps made little "cricking" noise in the interior. I used the cup holder and it broke on me spilling my damn coffee all over my hand. Guess what? I returned it and the dealer made me buy them a new cup holder! For $114.00! $114.00 for a freaking cup holder? The car is not built well for the price, for that price I will rather get a 330xi and Dinan mods so it performs better. Consumer Report ranks Audi low for reliability! If you want German go BMW or Porsche.

Go to www.audiworld.com and see for yourself in the S4 forum. The S4 weighs a lot more than an M3. Maybe if you warped out the car (spent more than an M3 after mods), you might get lucky once before your engine craps out (at least turbos). I should mention you better have good weather too, cause the S4 doesn't do so great when it's hot out.

You also better hope their aren't any twisties.

The E36 M3 was a completely different story.

S4s with chip and exhaust run low 13s. I've seen as low as 13.1 on audiworld. MY 2001s have revised turbos=very few issues. S4 weighs about 200 lbs more than M3, but has over 100 lb-ft more torque. Good weather? Hahahaha.. the M3 driver better pray it's not raining/damp outside. Might lose a few ticks if it's extremely hot.... but so would the M3. Spend more than M3 in mods? These mods cost under 2k. S4=40k. You do the math. Twisties?... most AWers do coilovers first. Then it's all about the driver.

sboje, stop talking out of your ass.

Why do all S4 owners always fall back on "the M3 driver better pray it's not raining/damp outside." They even say that about Porsches and stuff. Come on. The S4 is nice. Very nice with a few thousand in brakes. But, too many problems with the brakes and driveline. A buddy at work took his S4 to the racetrack, and after a day there (just a few laps from what I undertand), he needed new brakes. Proably not 5K miles on the car. He took it to Audi, and they said it was not meant for that kind of driving. It was a pain for him to get them to replace them under warranty. Not meant for that kind of driving? It's an S4. Supposed M3 challenger. Sure, the Audi quattro has been banned from races because of the AWD advantage, but real world? Can't handle the torque. And, nobody is stupid enough to race when it is bad weather! Doubt even an S4 owner. Don't even get me started on resale. Don't even get me started. (anyone watch SNL? )
S4 is nice, don't get me wrong. I would like to race my friend in his S4 manual, but I know I would be chasing him. But, should we talk about my friend with his Supra? What does any S4 owner have to say about Supras? Talk about mods. The only thing you would ever hear an S4 owner say would be: "better pray it's not raining/damp outside."

Hey idiot. The guy brought up weather. I was responding to his post. What does a supra have to do with anything? Supra has no luxury and barely enough room for a two year old in the back.

I've seen a FEW roughly equivelent 1/4 mile times for the S4.

Unless they install K04 turbos, they will bite the dust eventually... no doubt in my mind. I also read posts of driveline problems. If Audi thought the car could handle the stresses of the exra power, don't you think they would have released it with more power? They know they'd have warranty claims from hell. Brakes don't seem to be real winners either.

I don't think too many S4s that run low 13s will make it 2 years without major repair. An M3 that runs low 13s should be fine.

And are you saying the people getting low 13s have only a chip and regular pump gas?

I drove an S4 last week when it was hot outside. The throttle response was crap, and the power wasn't there. I drove a used 328i on the same day and it was very responsive. I have driven and S4 when it was cooler out and it was a lot faster. That is why I mentioned the weather.

I do think a AWD M3 would kick ass. Maybe BMW doesn't have enough expertise to push 300+ HP through it though.

I just don't think the S4 is in the same class as the M3. The M3 is a supercar, the S4 is a sport sedan. (by today's standards). Even the old M3 was faster around a track than the S4. Yes, its cool that you can get gobs of power by adding a chip. But isn't that the Camaro mentality? German sedans are about total performance, not 1/4 miles. The S4 doesn't measure up to the M3, nor is it expected to at it's price point.

Idiot? Why are you here? S4 board too boring? How much can you fit in your backseat, or... how often do you put anything in the backseat at all? Probably gets the same use as a Supras. Yes, I said Supra again. Your 2001 S4 was made to compete against an E36 M3. It does that rather well. However, it does NOT compete against an E46 M3, both with competent drivers, on a road or track. Sure, in inclement weather the S4 would take it, barely.
The guy raced him head to head. He was there. How can you say he is talking out of his *ss? Maybe his friend is on your S4 board, and you can ask him his version.
Stop the hait mail. Sheesh, Pshhhhh.
