Blinking D4 light on a 99TL

i was driving the 99TL and while driving through the snow, i popped the gear into D3 because i didnt want the wheels to have unnecassary spin and start slipping out of control. but once i put it back in D4 when i got onto the highway, the light started to blink!! it was freakin scary because the Check light and TCS came on, then the D4 started blinking all at the same time. i just came home because the roads are way too slippery to drive on anymore.. but im guessing its a possible tranny problem on a 99TL???

Yeah the symptoms of chrimstas lighting on the Dash usually means Tranny replacement needed. And what your describing seems to be all that. Keep us informed and good luck.

did it shift normally? if so, then its hard to say, but the light show is a certain sign for tranny failure - how many miles do you have? hopefully less than 100k

i only have 72k miles on my 99. so i definitly still have the warranty on it.. i couldnt tell if it was shifting normally or not. i couldnt drive properly because of the slippery road conditions and the snow pouring onto the windshield. the snow stopped and now it doesnt seem to bad, i guess its time to take it out and see if im having problems with tranny. wow, i was loving the whole thing with my 99TL because of no tranny problems but it hits me at the worst road conditions possible. ouch

at least you have nearly 30k left of warranty, but hopefully it isnt anything with the tranny.

YUP its the tranny. i just went for a test drive back and forth on the highway. WOW the third gear is like non-existant almost. the gears jump around on their own, even on Shiftronic mode!! i pop it into the SSmode, and the numbers on the dash just jump around. im trying to hold it in second but once vtec triggers, it goes straight to three, and it barely stays at three. maybe for a good half a second and jumps to fourth gear without me even pressing up on it! my acceleration sucks and the rpms are just bouncing around.

well my friend, at least you are under warranty - Acura did good by extending the warranties for all 2nd gen TLs it looks like. I just hope mine dies (if it does) before 100k - I only have 15k left!

Was this the first time anything seemed wrong with it?

yeah.. this is the first problem i had since i bought the TL, besides the EGR, but thats minor.. so i guess its cool..

well except the fact that my headlamps were almost stolen and scratched up all over the place, but thats not the car's problem.. well actually, honda couldve done something to keep the headlamps secured, but whatever it wasnt stolen.. just attempted.
