Black Chrome Emblems

Hey Guys,

So I did some searching already and could not find the answer I was so seeking regarding this.....And I suppose I could have called the Acura Dealer, but I would rather hear from you guys. My TL-S is NBP, and I have been searching for a black chrome emblem kit for awhile - finally found one, at a great price no less. Here is the potential problem - the kit says it is for '99 - '01 TL's and mine is an '03. Now I realize that this could just be the years when the black chrome option was offered, but the main thing I am worried about is the front "A". Isn't the grill emblem on '99 to '01's different than on my '03? And if so, would it still fit on my grill? Any info would be greatly appreciated guys.

Both the front and rear A emblem are different on the 99-01 vs the 02-03

Here, I have a 3G TL and I want this done, heres how your going ot get it done, I talked to someone @ an Acura dealership that sells HIGHLY online.

You are referring to an electroplating process. Black chrome does not use the body paint color of NBP since paint would completely mask the chrome nature of the emblem. There are many companies which come out to dealerships and apply a special electroplated paint to the existing chrome to achieve this effect. Actually, Acura did sell TL emblems in this color (high quality dipped, rather than basic on-car EP), but not for the 2004 – up. The problem with this EP process is that it does wear off over time (ever see worn gold emblems? Same process leads to that discoloration). If you want your chrome emblems black chromed, you need to contact a local electroplater (tons of mobile ones in most cities).

Thanks,

Brian

Thanx for the feedback, guys. I'm going to look into electroplating and see what I can dig up because I really want to get this done. I'll keep everyone posted.

I think the easiest way to get that effect is to go to a model car hobby store and buy spray on tint since it'll give that transparent tint look. It's a lot cheaper than electroplating, and it looks nice if applied properly.

Mr. Chrome will do it. This subject has been beat to death over in 3G forum..do a search...there are all kind of places listed to have em done. BUT...it is not cost effective for the most part and tends to run pretty steep. I was the one who got the last set that was left from the source we were getting them from. (Weir Acura at the time had MANY sets they were dumping due to lack of interest...but they are sold out and not messing with it anymore)

Check the thread...you will find all you wanted to know and more.
