Big Scare Today!Headlight Theft Related

Today I was at the Mill Creek Mall in Secaucus, NJ and they anounced for an owner of a Silver TL to come to the front desk. I thought it was my TL, so I went up to the desk, and apparently another TL got their headlights jacked right there in the parking lot!!! Thank God they didn't get to my car!!
Word of advice, the guy had his front end facing bushes, so do whatever you can to expose your front end and make it visable!!!!
This is seriously getting out of hand....Everywhere I go I have to worry about my car!!

All you NJ/NY people be very careful!!!!

Parking either way sucks, either you get the HIDs stolen in the front or Acura/Type S badge and exhaust tips in the rear

Wow.. That weird..

I am a Captain in the Fire Dept, here in Secaucus, and I was listening to the cops on my radio..chase the guys who did it, Don't know if they caught them but they were chasing a Black Jeep Cherokee w/tints.. So be on the lookout.

Always park with your headlights facing outward, always easier to replace a badge and tips...

Are there any car alarms there that would give a mild electric discharge just to make working on the headlights uncomfortable?

Man, that's pretty ironic NJ01V6, it's a small world....

I hope they caught them because that's one less theif out and about around the Secaucus Area and in NJ in general.

Would it be legal to use your car as bait for someone to come and try to vandalize or strip it, and when they arrive to hit 'em with a tazer and a couple shots of Louisville Slugger to the ribs? Seriously, would this get you in trouble?

Yah yah, I have my protractors(???I'm dumb, I mean ardent opponents) who feel I have too many violent tendencies, but yah, that is what I would do if my car ever got jacked!

For you suckers who don't like my KrimNL10Dencies, I have 1 thing to say:

Damn, can I even park my car in public? When I read threads like this, I wonder whether I should have stuck with my Dodge Intrepid, which even dealers don't want these days. I only think that for a second or two, though!

Seriously, though, I park close to the bldg. I'm in, rear in/headlights out.

Now when you say, steal the headlights, do you mean the whole assembly, or do they just smash the lenses and rip out the bulbs? I'm wondering how they get them out without taking off the bumper

now, when they steal them, is that so they could put them into their riced out Accords?

If so, how do they fir the teardrop shape into the rectangular Accord housing?

This TL had its headlights ripped out the way the theives usually do it. It seems as if they stomp on the bumper, drop it to the floor, and then take the whole headlight assembly out. I heard damges are around $4000, sometimes more!

Sounds about right...damage whatever is in the way, but not what they want to take...

One of the radio shows was talking about this problem in general, not just the Acura problem, and the question they posed was - would you do anything if you saw a guy in a mall parking lot messing with his lights? And these dumba$$es were calling in and saying "well, how would i know that he's not doing work on his OWN car?" so then everyone called in agreeing with that idiot, until finally someone with a brain got through and said basically, dude- why would you mess with your car in a mall parking lot, and not in your own garage?! that shut the people up pretty fast.

I always park front first next to a wall if possible. If not a wall, then car. I thought this would make it harder to steal the lights.

I was at the mall yesterday. Usually I try to park as far as I can trying to avoid dings on the side of my car. But after reading this post, I thought twice. This time I tried to park as close to the entrance as possible, somewhere well populated. It seems you can't win. I'd rather have a ding on my side than have my headlights get jacked.

Cars move away, and then your car is left with its front exposed... just think about it. This whole situation sucks.

Also gives them more cover to work in if they can be in front of your car with out being seen, as in between it and a wall.

With all these car thefts... I think we should step up the security arrangements we make for our car.

Yesterday, I was thinking about rigging flashbangs to our car. You can get them from military surplus stores I think. It's relatively simple, the pin comes off and as long as the can bursts a couple feet from your car, you'll blind the thief and, for those with you with pager alarms, kick him/her a couple times in the ribs while they're blinded.

Any ideas?

I'm thinking KITT mod... someone tries to jack the lights, car beats the **** out of them and comes back to you to tell you what happened

I had my headlights stolen about a month ago, you have to be careful when you go out. That's how they caught me (or should I say my girl) They followed her after she went grocery shopping & as soon as she went in the door they attacked. (that's what the neighbors say) These guys wait in parking lots all day for prey, Silfa said it right. Too many worries w/ this car, it's bad enough u have 2 worry about any car being stolen or keyed. Now u have 2 worry about your damn headlights. I got a clifford alarm & a hood lock after being a victim but my heart still pounds daily. I'm looking in2 trading my car in within the next few weeks, too many worries in the Tri State Area...

Can you replace the HID's with regular lights? I know that sucks, but if you live in a high risk area it's better than getting your cars face ripped off. Of course you would have to put a big sticker somewhere really visible saying HID's have been removed.

I can see it now, a nice 30k TL-S/CL-S with a handwritten cardboard sign in the window that says NO HIDs IN CAR

Between this story at Mill Creek and Paul CL's getting hit on Friday, I'm paranoid as heck... Jersey sucks.

They don't use the CL/TL headlight housing, they just use the bulb's and the ballast/ignitors. They just glue, screw or just plain wedge the D2R's into their headlight housing .

And to think were worried about using D2R's or D2S'.
