A friend of mine has been bugging me for a while, saying how his car is this good and that good.. He owns a prelude (00') and here is a list of his mods:

AEM cold air intake
AEM pulleys
5zigen JDM cat back
17 Work Emotion CR
H&R Race springs
DC f/r strut bars

whatever these are.. i am just wondering, will I have a chance against him? I am 99.9% stock. (03' TL-S)

you'd beat him.

the prelude is a fast engine, in vtec only....his mods would improve the speed of the car obviously...but you have an easy 50hp on him

If i were him, i wouldnt run you unless i had nitrous. like a 50 shot.

If he wants to race for money something is fishy hehe.

The only way he'll beat you or gain on you will be in the corners or twisties. He's lowered, got better structural bracing for high speed turns, and probably performance tires with his Work wheels (where as you'll have to slow down before you lose traction). But as the other guys say, you should have no problems in a straight line.

PS: don't race in Richmond. Richmond RCMP will throw the book at you if you get caught (especially your friend for illegal mods - H&R Race springs are illegal - it's considered too low ).

With all those mods, I think he's going to hang around until 45 mph or so. When you hit 3rd gear, that's when you'll pull away. Don't let people trick you into thinking you will destroy him. Those Preludes are great cars and fast too. He may have 200 hp stock, but you have to also consider that he isn't stock anymore and his car weighs a lot less than ours.

I've actually ran a Prelude with very similar mods and so my post reflects the outcome of that run. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

They don't have much torque. If its auto you will destroy him. If its a manual one then it should be closer but you will win. Except for the intake the rest of the mods don't anything for acceleration or speed (and the catback - missed that).

I used to have a 5th gen Lude, if he's an auto you'll kill him. If he has a 5 speed it would be a good race because YES we do have 60 more horses than him but his Prelude also weighs 4 or 5 hundred pounds less than your TL.

In any case, my TL-S feels way faster than my Prelude auto.

Guys don't forget the RSX-S runs almost exactly the same 0-60 and 1/4 mile times as the TL-S and its "only" got 200hp...

Granted the RSX-S is even lighter than the 'Lude @ 2778lbs versus 2954lbs and the RSX-S has an extra gear to tighten the gear ratios ... but I wouldn't immediately assume the Prelude would win, especially if its a 5spd ... An auto probably wouldn't be as much competition and if the Prelude is anything like the RSX-S, you need a really good launch to pull the same numbers as the TL-S.

my friend got killed big time when i raced him im on a TL-P and he was bragging about his car and the mods he has. I was in the car 190 lbs my other friend 280 lbs my system about 200 lbs vs the lude and himself in the car. i was a car infront before my cai.
