Excuse me my ignorance... I too have 2000TL w/Navi and I play CD once in a while, but I don't understand what "it takes forever" means. To me it sounds like impossibility - it takes exactly the time it suppose to take - you are not saying that your CD plays at half the speed, right? But it seems that everybody understands what are talking about - so, what I am missing?

Some burned CD's, for whatever reason (brand, quality, condition, etc), don't play right away in certain CD players. It's not just our cars players that have this problem; all sorts of cd players encounter this issue. Basically, when you stick a CD in the player, it looks for a TOC that initializes the player and thus starts playing. Sometimes, that TOC is hard to read, or the player has to keep scanning the TOC before it recognizes it, and plays. The time it takes the cd player to read the CD’s TOC is the delay people are talking about. If the cd player can’t read the CD’s TOC, the CD doesn’t play.

Personally, I've never had a problem with 74 min TDK cd's. They're hard to find in stores, but you'll see them every once in a while. The 80 min TDK cd's are second best in my book. Also, there's been a lot of debate on burn speed and it's associated effect on cd playback, but for whatever reason (I don't want to start a debate here about whether it effects it or not), I have better luck when I burn CD's at 1x. Yeah, it takes forever to burn, but when they're done, they work every time.

And yes, like fsttyms1 said, the two types head units should swap out without a problem.
