Belt dressing as maintainence item?

Hi guys, my belts are not making any noises, but I have some Napa belt dressing and it states it will prolong the life on v-belts and allow smoother, cooler operation. I was wondering if spraying a little dressing on all of my belts would be a good idea or not. I figure if it does help lubricate the belts and promote longer life than it can't hurt and should actually help free up some power by reducing friction. what do you guys think?

how did you apply it? did you spray it between the pulleys and belts, where they meet? did you notice your car running smoother and/or stronger after using the belt dressing?

there is no way it will help the car run stronger...just no way. The belt needs friction - that is how it turns on the pullies. This will only help reduce noise.

That makes complete sense, I am an idiot. I can't believe I didn't realize that. Seriously I feel stupid now, just ranting.

If the belt squeaks or is making noise/REPLACE it. They are not designed (As several experts have told me) to have stuff put on em. Never had a squeak from a honda engine belt that was in good shape.

close this thread mods. i posted not because my belts are sqeaking(they are not) but because I wanted to know if belt dressing was good to use to prolong the life of my belts and I stupidly thought it would decrease friction, which it would but that would hinder the pulleys ability to pull the belts.
