battery terminals

theres quite a bit of corotion on my battery terminals. and im looking to clean and replace the terminal since it doesnt clamp down very well anymore, the bolt seems iffy and i dont want it poping off while driving. if i buy new ones how would i go about taking off theold ones and putting the new ones on.
also do you guys have a thoughts on any good brands?

You don't need to replace them.

Buy a battery terminal brush from the local auto parts store
Mix some baking soda with water
Disconnect the battery terminals
Dip the brush in the bs/water solution and scrub the terminals till they are clean

You can also try a can of Coke - not diet....lol.

The regular red Coke can.......my father always used it and it seemed to really take away all the corosion.

Any ol' nut will do (just be sure you have both of yours when your done

One more thing to do when your done and everything is snug. I take a dab of bearing grease and coat both terminals anywhere where there is exposed metal. I've done this for over 20 years and never had any corrosion come back.

There is a product specifically meant to prevent corrosion on battery terminals. I can't remember the name, but it's like a gel that you cover the terminals with.

As long as it doesn't liquify from the engine temps. Most any petrolium based jells will work. I chose the bearing grease because it was something I had lying around the shop
