Battery Saving TL?

Do our TL's have any type of shutoff features for stuff (i.e. dome lights, etc.) if left on?

I left mine on last nite and came out this morning and it was still on... the battery wasn't dead though. So could it be a "shuts if off when the battery gets low enough and holds enough for one more start?" type of shut off -- or nothing?

My TBird it was timed I think...

thanks

I'm not 100% sure because I am too damn lazy to crack open the manual, but on my '00 I have autostart and one day when I went to work it was raining and I had my lights on. When I went out after work, about 9 hours or so, I turned on the car with the remote and my lights came on (normally only the parking lights come on). I guess I left them on and they turned off automatically. I was gonna check the manual to see if we have it, but forgot. Can anyone verify this?

you guys need to play with your car more.

if you leave ur headlights on, and then shut off the car (and lock it). the lights stay in for about 15-30 secs, then shuts off.
then when you unlock the car, the headlights turn on (i do this often cuz it looks cool) it remains on for 15-30 secs, then shut off again until u open the driver side door or turn on the car.

i have this in my 01 TL and my friend had it in his 00 TL.

correct me if i'm woring but that's how it works.

No it doesn't. My battery drained one before because of the alarm sensors that i added to the factory and the car sat for a week straight.

Sounds like Tommy was talking about the dome light not the headlight.

I am not sure about other people, but I think i play with my car to the bone

Nice! I am gonna do this from now on at night. Then when I autostart my car from a distance it will look sweet (also the fact that you can't see into the car at night)

Yep I know about the headlights -- I use this feature -- occassionally -- not all the time.

If I come home and know I'm going out later when its pitch black out. Occassionally in parking lots just cuz its cool to be walking up, hit the remote and have those bright honeys kick on u get lots of looks and sometimes WOW's lol

I won't get into the headlights since that has already been covered. As for the dome lights. If you happen to leave your door ajar, the lights will shut off (not sure about the door lights), after a few minutes. I'm certain of this since I've had it happen to me several times.

The dome light and headlights shut off automatically.

The door courtesy step lights and the map lights don't shut off.
So leaving your rear doors open will not drain the battery but leaving your front doors open will eventually drain the battery.

It's odd that Acura didn't decide to make these door courtesy lights shut off automatically too. Probably, just another cost-cutting measure.

For the map lights at least, yeah...cost cutting. All you have in the maplights is the bulb...two wires to the switch...and two wires from the switch to the power supply. They'd have to add a third little part that shut them off after awhile. You can always add a transistor in there to shut off with everything else if you'd rather...

The dome light shuts off after a while even if you place it in the "on" position.

The map lights don't turn off--but you use them to read with when the car is parked, so...

Here is the cut down. If you leave the dome lights in the middle they will turn on when the door is opened and trun off when the car is started or the door is closed. If you have them in the off position they wont turn on at all. If you turn them on they will stay on and not turn off at all.

Except that, as Daverman pointed out, if it is in the "on" position it will go off after a while if the engine is shut off. I'm not sure of the exact time, but it isn't as long as I expected. All in the attempt to keep your battery from draining down to a level where you can't start the car.

Anyone play with the navi with the engine off but the ignition on? After about 5 minutes you get that ominous warning that the car has deemed you not worthy of playing any longer, and will commence shutdown of the system to preserve the battery.
