Basic Questions About Tinting

I just had some basic questions about tinting. How much does it usually cost? Anything to watch out for or make sure of before I get it (such as the people who do the job, etc.)? I have a WDP by the way

It will cost you anwhere between $150 - $200. The place that does it should be able to provide a lifetime warranty on the film and any workmanship defects.

Be sure to tell them to do the rear window in ONE piece as some places will use a series of strips. And if you don't want them to cut the tint around your brake light, then tell them that too.

Visit a few shops and just look around, that's what I did before I got mine. Is the place clean, or are there a bunch of scuzzy greasy handed dudes doing the work. Look at some of their work, there should be at least a car or two out there, if there are none, then that should make you wonder about their volume of business and the reasons behind the low volume.

Hope this helps.

BTW, I would recommend getting the same % all around, or the same % on all sides and something darker for the rear deck. That staggered F/R tint doesn't look too hot to me.

Cost varies by region and also by shop. I paid $175 for 20% on the rear and 35% on the side. My installer also put a black vinyl strip over the dot-matrix on the rear window... makes it look OEM.

I've seen prices as low at $75 and as high as $250... depends where you're located. I can't recall anyone else from TN posting their prices, so it's best you shop around.....

BTW, my friends' mom's car's tint has started getting bubbles... It looks really terrible. Must have been a bad tinting job (?)

Thanks for all the posts so far. One more question I had is if you guys know much about tinting and tint laws. If a certain % tint is legal in my state and I go to visit another state that has stricter laws, can I be pulled over? If so, what shade should I get so that I can travel freely yet at the same time people cannot make things out clearly inside the car when they are looking? Deciding on tints is harder than I thought.

I also have a WDP with tan/parchment interior. I used LLUMAR PT 28% all around which is illegal in AL(35%). However, due to the light interior of the car. The tint seems like its perfectly legal with the cops, and yet people can only see the shadow from outside of the car.

Can some of you guys please post pictures of your TL's with tints and what % they are? I wanted to get an idea. CKAcura, I was thinking about getting what you have, except 35% all around. If you could, please post some pictures. Thanks to all.

I have 35% all around, but no pics.

Find a thread where SuperChargedTLS posted pics of his car after he cleard his headlights. It was within the last 10 days or so. He has 35% all around.

There are also a few people with 35% all around that have a pic of their car in their sigs.

Tint Brands

What kind of brands of film should one look for when getting windows tinted professionally? Is SolarGard a good brand? Metallic vs. Non-Metallic? I heard that SolarGard has a new Grey tint. Anyone tried their Grey?

I got that brand on my windows! On the warranty sheet, the guy wrote "grey" as the color. Looks just like smoked to me. It's metallic. I have Navi but it has not interfered with it at all.
