Baking Headlights Question..

Does baking your headlights make the chrome inside dull, due to the heat?

using a heatgun is a much better alternative so you dont have to rush (thus bending the headlight when prying it apart) to open the headlight when the butyl starts hardening while its cooling off.

u would recommend the oven, if your worried of messing up just take them out a couple minutes earlier and check to see how pliable it is. after all the little tabs are popped gently pry to 2 halfs apart.. it wont mess up the headlight inside. i would recomment oven method

hey ive taken apart about 3 sets of TL headlights and on my retro I took it apart like 3 times. First time ever I used a heat gun, very very bad idea. It does work, but it takes way too long plus sealing it back its better in the oven because its consistant with the heat, whereas if you use a heatgun by the time you get around the other sides are cold. Only time I had my headlight leak was from the heatgun, oven, none. Just speaking from experience.

oven for me and others that i did. no problems, just dont touch the chrome, and if u do dont try to clean it off while the chrome is still warm/hot. the chrome will start to come off. clean it off when its at room temp. with a microfiber towel and some glass cleaner/ invisible glass

Well, I can see why the oven is better, more consistent. I guess No Guts, No Glory! Wish me luck. Dealer wanted to charge me 300 bucks for removing the bumper, did it myself, so why not go all the way.

just did mine one of them leak so im gonna redo it and yea the head gun works but does get a bit to hot melted some of my tabs im i screwed mine up i got some paint inside one of them so i had to wipe it down with paint thinner now there a haze left inside now
so im gonna give it a plastic polish see how that is and just to go over the silver strip on the outside whats the best way to get that off i sanded it with some sandpaper got most of it off but its still whiteish and if if i was to redo them whats the best wayy to open em up again seeing that i sealed them with silicone

To paint their housings black...to clear the amber turn signal..to do a projector retrofit..and i'm sure there's other reasons...

I was going to do this, but my lens has some discoloration on them, so I know it'd show up a lot if I black the housing. Sucks.
