It's really kind of a shame that Acura can't build a better coupe. I mean, I LOVE my first gen CL. But the new one's styling is pretty bland inside and (especially) out. The performance is good but not great, it's somewhat luxurious but not wholly so...

They need a drastically striking design that will really bring attention to the car. A convertible version certainly wouldn't hurt. And a top-of-the-line Type-R that runs with the M3 would boost all of Acura's image. If they continue with the pretty-good-but-not-great-across-the-line design, I think they SHOULD stop production.

I guess I'm not too surprised. Coupes just don't sell as well as sedans. In addition, within Acura they have the NSX and CL which may be one too many coupes. I wonder how many Accord coupes and Preludes Honda sells.

Run with the M3? That's all the $90K NSX does is "run with" the M3. If they redesigned the CL to compete with that crowd, it would take away from the NSX.
I think somewhere between where the CLS is now, and the new M3 could be a goal.

I'll bet the main cause is that the TL cut into some CL sales once the Type-S became available. If you think about it, most people in our demographic are probably concerned with practicality and a 4-door is far more practical than a coupe, and with how similar our cars are, more people would probably pick ours over an MDX. Our interior and trunk is a little bigger than the CL, too.

Read the link below and you'll see what's up

I agree with the fact that the TL took part of the sales from the CL cause they released the Type S for the TL. For people, it's the 4 door. To me..they just made it look much better compared to the CL. I mean...if the CL looked exactly like the TL (i.e front end, and rear end) I wouldv'e gotten the coupe in a instant. But that's a bit boring like when they have the 94-97 Accords. But I don't mind. I bet you, we will see the end of the CL....

well i love my cl-s

on the up side

my car is rare

every time im on the road i spot atleast 3 tl and maybe 1 tl-s

i think acura did a great job with the rear but the front....well they could have done that a bit better.

the only thing that pisses me off is that the 2002 CL is the only 2002 honda and acura without a plastic emblem on the airbag!!!!!

Damn civics and insights have a nice badge on their stearing wheel!!!!

Frankly, Acura deserves it.

What an insignfiant design!

How come they are not able to build something like THIS that could really compete 3 series Coupe?!

I don't know... BMW manages to sell the M3, M5, and Z8, all of which have similar performance, but at different price points and marketed to different sets of folks. If the NSX gets as significant a performance boost as is rumored, I think Acura could still get away with a sub 5 second 0-60 coupe that sells for under $50K.

It just seems to me that incremental improvements are what got Acura in this pickle in the first place. The TL and MDX are solid contenders in their markets, but the CL can't seem to make much of a dent. Maybe what they need is a more radical, aggressive approach!

The 4-door is more pratical. The last time I purchased a 2-door vehicle was during my college days.

Forget about that Skoda coupe

after all. it is just based on a VW and manufactured in Czech Republic.

Here is a better news for coupe fans - Pontiac GTO is coming!!!

I think the CL would sell if they offered some more upgrades for the CL, I mean they don't even have a body kit. One thing I liked about my bmw is that I can get some upgrades direct from factory. Like new(cool) wheels, clear side blinkers, etc. I mean I was flipping through a old issue of Velocity magazine and saw the imfamous SEMA CL-S and it was on public streets. The thing looked hot! Especially the wheels, the new spoiler, the body kit. Acura needs a in house tuner bad! Also it would sell even hotter if Acura stops pretending that it's a sports coupe. Yeah the 6-speed is nice, but where's the rwd? The styling? I mean the E46 3 series coupe is about a year or two older and the thing still looks sexier!
Here is just another reminder of how sexy the CL "can" be....

I'm not into aftermarket mods, and I have to admit that car looks awesome! Acura has the potential... now let's just REALIZE it!

Well DUH? At least the first gen had that striking rear. The new one, yeah it's ot ugly but it's not pretty.
A COUPE IS SUPPOSED TO STRIKE EMOTION.
A COUPE IS SUPPOSED TO BE FASTER THAN A SEDAN.
A COUPE IS SUPPOSED TO BE SEXY.

The CL has no image and no brand. It's Acura's fault with those lame ads for it.
And the Accord coupe is slick and almost as good.

Acura never gave it a chance, damn shame. They wanna blame it on SUV's. Then how come the Accord coupe, 3 coupe sell so well?

Coupes are a perilous business to be in. Even BMW had to discontinue their 8-series w/o any immediate replacement. The motto may be stylish cars with at least 4 doors??? I think most can live with that. The only coupes I see with long-term robust sales are: Corvettes (dealers selling every one made), Mustang (one of the few coupes you see in fleet service), 3-series, possibly Sebring and Civic, Eclipse, and 911. Cracking into these markets is really tough no matter how good the offering may be.

Group buy/request for SEMA CLS Rims

Maybe we should get a group order/buy for those rims and send them to Acura or whoever!

I'd throw some money down for those rims. Does anyone know who made them and how much they cost for the SEMA show?

Well the 850 was stylish, but it was weighed too much and it was not one of the better handling BMWs.
BUt it is an electrical NIGHTMARE, BMW had a lot of new Tech introduced with that car5 and it did not work too well.

I think first gen CL's are hideous... The new ones are pretty, and I really cant understand why they arent selling. They offer every option the CLK does and performance differences are minimal, yet cost 25k less... the whole acura affordable luxury thing seems to do so well in every other market.. hmmm... maybe the six speed will be the adrenaline shot it needs.... that will be a fun test drive

Yeah they are made by Enkei. The sema wheels looks kind of like tl-s wheels, but with large cuts formed in them, don' you think so?
