Backup Camera

I've tried doing a search and couldn't find an answer. I'm in the process of hooking up a backup camera and I know I can tap into the backup light for power. Is there a backup power wire that I can tap into that's near the dash? I assume that there would be a wire going from the fusebox to the rear. The only reason I'm asking is because the camera wire has the power, ground and video wire all in one. I could do 2 things:

1. Run the whole wire to the front and then run a single power wire to the back to tap into the backup light. (I don't really want to splice into the all in one wire at the back)

2. Keep the whole wire in the back and run a single video cable to the front.

I'd prefer to run the whole wire to the front and tap into a reverse wire in the front. If I can't do that, then I'll probably settle for #2. Any help is appreciated.

no idea, but let us know what you find because I will do this one day as well. Where are you placing the camera? Pictures when done? Good luck

You may be able to tap into the light associated with reverse in the shift gate. Not sure if this would work but it could be an option. You could also trace out the power associated with the right mirror going down while in reverse.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

I got one of those license plate cameras and tapped it into a 12V constant to make sure it works. It's a pretty simple installation. The only pain is getting the wire through the grommet in the back trunk. Might have been easier if I took the bumper off, but it is doable. Once the weather clears up I'll have to decide how I want to hook it up. Looks like I'll be going the route of tapping into the backup light in the trunk.

Are you run the rear view camera to Head unit or to just mount Dash monitor piece?

If you are running it to HU do #2 That would much easier. That what I did.

You should be able to run wire between the middle upper parts of the license plate where the gap is. Then I took off my left side Taillight. Next drilled out 1/2 hole that no one can see an ran the wire through it, so you can tap into reverse light easier. Last run the Video wire from left side to back of middle seat to front throw the middle shift area to HU.

Good Luck Man

I'm running the rearview camera to the Kenwood DDX-7015. I'm not a fan of a separate dash mounted monitor.

If you open the trunk and unclip the 4 clips on the back, you can take off the plastic black lining. From there, you'll be able to see the grommet where the wire for the license plate light goes through. From there, it's just a matter of getting under the car and removing the electrical tape so you can get through the hole. No need for drilling. Wanted something with little modification.

I'm probably going with running just the video cable to the front. It makes no sense to run power wire to the front and then to the back.
