Back Window Tint
Back Window Tint
Quick Question:
Got my windows tinted today, when I pick up the car and get it home, I notice a strip across the top of the back windshield was not tinted. The strip starts right where what I can only describe as the "black checkerboard stuff" starts. For some reason the place didn't want to tint over that. Is there any good reason for them to NOT tint there? It looks like hell without it tinted.......
any help is appreciated.............

thats teh dot matrix. its hard to tint over and look good. BUT any good shop would go over it and be able to make it look good. id suggest going back to the place and tell them that you didnt want it tinted like tthat and you want the whole window tinted. Dot Matrix and all

There are many ways that the shop can tint over these dot matrix. Not easy, but possible. You can also check out www.tintdude.com. They have some good info on dot matrix. Good luck.
p.s. unfortunately, when I got mine tinted, I couldn't find a good shop around my area to do those dot matrix. I ended up with a vinyl strip covering the dot matrix. Mine is a NBP and with a black vinyl, it looks pretty good.

Lots of shops don't want to deal with the dot matrix because the tints won't simply stick. Since the dot matrix surface is made of teflon (i dink) and the space between them is small, just applying tints on them won't stick. However, there is a compound in which some tint shops use that fills the gap between the dot matrix allowing more surface area to stick with the tints. I got mine done with the compound and it looks okae, not perfect, but good to the unknowing eyes.
I agree with fsttyms1, go back and complain, that they didn't do the whole job and that they should finish it.

What you are describing is called the matrix, it just happens that the matrix on the 99 - 03 is pretty large, and cant be tinted with film. There are things that can be used to cover that section up, but the person tinting your window should have talked you about that before doin the job.
