Angry Back to Shop Again - Idle problem...

If you have had this problem, let me know...

I jump in the car last night, after work and I'm cruising to class. At a traffic light, I notice that the idle noise seems kind of loud. No biggie, I think that the 12 degree temp outside is making everything cold and noisy. Anyway, I then notice that the car is surging while I'm on the brakes or driving slowly looking for parking. When I park and put the car in Park. The tach starts going crazy! Down to 1K revs...up to 2500...down to 1K, back up to 2500. And it won't stop. I punch it, to see if it'll kick back down - nope! Still jumping back and forth. I turn it off and go to class. After my in class nap (different story), the ride home is worse.
The check engine light comes on, it keeps searching for the proper idle, the "VGA?" light comes on, the exclamation point light between the temp and gas gauges comes on ( and that light is for wheel spin) so I don't know why it came on. They all stayed on until I got home and shut the car off. I called the dealer and made an appointment to have them do something! It's been to the shop twice for the Navi screen, but never for something like this!!! Does any of this sound familar??

Sounds like a bad ECU. Shouldn't be difficult to fix.

Almost the same idle thing has happened to my car. It was probably about 30F, which isn't all that cold, and the car would just go up and down from about 800 to 1600. This occurred after I drove the car for about an hour, so the engine was warm. I opened the hood, and I could also hear a click everytime it changed idle. Later that night, I drove again, but the problem never reappeared. It's been about a week, and it seems fine. Maybe just a one time thing.

Have your dealer check it- it does sound like an ecu problem. We have had a couple that had similar problems and thats what it turned out to be.

I have the same problem, and also with the navigation screen. Its really wierd. The guys at the Acura Dealership in Raleigh are real a**holes. Ive put it in twice and they did nothing to it. It also vibrated in initial acceleration from stop. They said all TLs did it. But now I messed up my wheels bad now, so they can blame that.

It happened to my 92 Legend before.

At stop light, the engine surge from 800 RPM to 2500 RPM.

I don't know what it was, since I traded the car about 1 week after to the dealer.

I would think of it as this: the ECU needs input from various sensors to do it's job of determining it's output: fuel, spark, trans gear choice, VTEC, lean or rich mixture, idle speed etc. The overiding goal? Best performance with lowest possible emissions. Do do this, the ECU gets info. from the coolant temp. sensor, outside temp. sensor, oxygen sensor, throttle position sensor, and about 8 - 10 others if I remember right. If any of those inputs are not received it will "search" for the right output aimlessly until repaired. I am not a tech. but this is a general overview.

I know that if there is air in the cooling system that the coolant temprature sensor could get an incorrect reading and affect the idle. I know that I have seen this happen on other cars before. Usually if there is air and you bleed the system of air it would normally take care of the problem.

Hope this helps
