BAck from a G35 test drive!
SORRY GUYS: LONG POST
well first of all I'd like to say, my how things change when they see you pull up in a TL! Before I got my TL(2 months ago), I took my mom in our cavalier Z24(only car at the time) to test drive a G35. To cut a long story short, when we went in, we got horrible service, and they treated us as if we were poor sh1t. They kept saying, you probably can't afford a G35, so try a G20, just because we were trying to negotiate! They refused us a test drive, and we left fustrated and pissed off. After all 2 months in the TL, I decided to go back there and see if they had changed, and low and behold, they started eyeing my TL right from the start!!! The salesman apporached me immediately, and asked me if I wanted to test drive the G35 I was looking at! I said yes, so he copied my dL, and we went into a white G35 with leather, no options. The following is my short test drive experience!:
As we rolled out of the parking lot, the salesman(older dude) started the TL bashing! oh I see your in your mother's FWD car! It placed sixth in a recent road and track comparison! I said I had read the mag, so this shut him up! he then encouraged me to "floor it", so I could see the difference in acceleration! First three gears are like a rocket guys!, but you immediately notice the LOUD engine noise invading the cabin, once you open up the throttle! very different from the grave yard interior of the TL. There was an anoying dash board rattle coming from the center console that I noticed, but I didn't mind. As a 6 footer, I felt CRAMPed in the G35. My TL felt like it had 2wice as much room for my upper torso! The seats are also a bit too sporty for me(forces you to like sit up straight), and I immediately missed my TL's coshy seats! I even took a fast corner, and it held on perfectly! No body roll! It wasn't even the sport suspension! felt like driving a celica, or something. The AC looked like it struggled a bit, and it took quite a while to cool us down. The sport shift was also kindda wired the way gate is located towards the passenger! All in all it wasn't bad! I finally test drove the almighty G35. I think its an ok car, but I will definitly stick with acura! It just felt like it had a much more sophisticated ride, that I've grown used to. also the exterior styling is more elegant. The G35 floats over bumps, unlike my TL. I went on a 20min joy ride in the thing, as the salesman felt he had to prove he had the more macho car!. Feel free to ask me any questions about the car! I will give my honest unbiased opinion. I'm also busy reading the brochure right now so I'll keep u posted

I test drove the G35 a while ago as well
the sales told me that how much better the g35 is compared to my TL... i just don't get it, sale people should give facts and support them too, not just bash other people's cars, especially customers cars!! it's just so rude
but anyways, it handles quite good, but it does not cover up your mistakes in the twisty road like a bmw :p not even close
i think the interior is not as good as the tl... i don't think the layout is logical or stylish, it's just odd, and so is the sport shift or the seat adjusters!! i do like the exterior excluding the rear lights
the car looks low and euro flavor too, acceleration is fast, and VQ engine is very torquey!! louder and more unrefined too, unfortunately, the past VQs were known for smoothness...
conclusion: both cars have their pros and cons... duh!:p just depend on what matter to the peopl looking into buying these cars, i guess, but for now i'll keep my tl and 330Ci thank you very much, fatty sales man

My TL's saleman treated us really well. He even did things like this: when we sit in the lounge, he said let me turn on the TV for you. We negociated for about 2 hours about the price. It was a pleasure trip.
But,... I begin to doult the TL's quality because I have had it for only 2 months, it has begun to hear squeezing noise inside the car.

they didn't change much from the RHD version that is why the gated shifter is on the right instead of the left same with the A/C control placement. I felt that the G35 was not all that. The brakes were really sensitive which i didn't like. In all I do not like the car much at all. Will have to wait for the 350Z or G35 coupe with 6-Speed. 3K for the Aero package??? You gotta be ****ting me too on that! Infiniti is not so great, they better get their act together if they want to beat 3-series b/c so far they ain't got much.

First thing I thought was I could not be caught dead driving this thing. 2nd the interior looked a lil better than the ALtimas (CHEAP).
Did not help when NO ONE came to help, me and 2 other guys went inside and NO ONE CAME TO HELP.

Mention that you are going to Lexus next for an appointment to test drive the new IS300 and you'll see some results. They wouldn't even look at me, and then right as I am about to leave the damn dealership, he asks me what I drive. I say i inherited my brother's TL and I am going to test drive an IS300. Salesman is like YOU NEED to drive the G35. 20 seconds later he is back with a set of keys. He doesn't even come with me. LOL! Although it is a very sad incident, it was funny how LExus name got some results.

A comment "If the G35 is faster then the Type S"
Just to compare engine power from TL (type S also) to the G35. For the price you get the G35 fully loaded (with Hids, and everything we have, etc.) It will be around 35K or so. Now you can get a TL-S w/Navi for about 33K tops. Now add another grand and you have yourself some nice Comptech Headers, so thats around 1.2K. This should be seen by those that think that the G35 is faster than our Type S (I'll only believe it when I race one). Do the math.....its just not worth buying the G35 unless you like the company and the style.

yes in a drag race you will tie or probably beat the g35 with the headers, but you cant beat the added handling benefits of RWD and its better weight distribution... with out FWD(even though one of the better FWD cars today )
it depends on what the buyers value, someone wanting more sport might give up look and luxury and quality for the g35's RWD?

In my opinion, Infiniti cheaped out the interior to keep the car affordable. Too bad they didn't copy (loosely) the I35 interior, which I happen to like and make the best of both worlds. I also think the high console makes it feel cramped, even though interior volume measurements say otherwise. I think Infiniti missed the mark. It's too big to compete with the IS300 and 3 Series. Not near enough car to compete with the 5 series. That leaves the TL and TL-S, which are proven and have an exceptionally loyal following, and are front wheel drive. Some of us need or prefer FWD especially when driving in snow. Guess it's wait and see for Infiniti. What buyer are they really courting with the G?

Excellent points. The driving dynamics of the G35 are wonderful but the rest leaves a cold impression. The I35 interior I also find very, very appealing and gorgous. In-betweeners never really sell well, the Dodge Durango comes to mind.
3500 month G35s are not bad but the ES is selling 7k a month now and the TL is still at 5k a month.

Something about pontiac, I just dont like it.
Anyways, I test drove the G35, It was to small, I didnt like the drive as much as I thought i would. The brakes were very stiff, the center console as earlier mentioned is right in eye level. I cannot stand the back of the car, but the front is nice. And yes, they saved alot of money in the interior, it looks cheap, and plastic. Oh well, theres always the coupe to look forward to.
