B-pillar De-installation

B-pillar De-installation

Hi,

Does anyone know how to take apart the passenger side b-pillar? Thanks!

Ok... first of all, someone has to explain the a-pillar and b-pillar thing to me. I have no clue what that means or anything. Someone got an easy definition for me??

correct me if i am wrong.

The A pillar is where your windshield is, and the B pillar is in the center, where your seat belts are at.

why would you want to take apart the B-pillar??

its easy. Just pop up and remove the front and rear door sills. Also, you have to remove the bolt holding the seat belt. Then start at the bottom of the "B" piece and start to pull. If my memory serves me well, i think there is one clip on the "B" piece, located in the middle of the piece about midway up. It just presses into the metal of the car to grab, so it will also just pop out when you start to pull. Just use deliberate, but careful pulling as you go, so you dont crease the plastic.
Its been awhile so i honestly cant remember whether the door edge spline mounts over the edge of the "B" piece or whether the "B" piece is on top of it. If the spline goes over the edges of the "B" piece, just grab it and carefully pull it outward and it will come loose.

Yes, that's right. A is front windshield, B is middle, and C is rear windshield. Front-to-back, A-B-C. I'm trying to solve a rattle, which seems to be coming from there. And I've tried adjusting the seat belt height adjuster too.

Thanks for the de-installation info. I'll try it out this weekend hopefully.

i had that exact same rattle (i think it was the same as what you have). I thought it was the metal clip that holds the B pillar piece so i put felt all around the clip and into the hole it locks into but the sound didnt go away. It was annoying as hell because it sounds like its right by your ear. At the end of the day, i figured out what it was, and it wasnt the B pillar piece at all... it was the plastic rear door panel! Right at the edge of the door panel, closest to the B pillar, the plastic panel was rubbing against the door skin. The solution was to just shove a piece of felt between the panel and the door skin --- the noise has been gone for 30k miles! If you push against the door panel all around the edge, you should be able to recreate the sound and you will see exactly where its rubbing. I know the noise doesnt sound like a plastic on metal noise, but if you have the noise i had, I can assure you this does the trick.
