Audio question but....

wanted to ask specific people who own the TL (99). I have a 5 channel amp, after market HU and a sub that I would like to install. Would there be any problems running the stock speakers through the new amp. I do plan on getting new door speakers all around but can't at the moment. Does anyone know offhand what the handling power is of the stock speakers. I'm sick of the stock Bose HU as well as the sub.

I'll post this in the Audio forum as well - I just wanted advice/answers from those who own a 2nd Gen TL.

Thx,
B

the search button will be your best answer.

but just my thought in it, the aftermarket HU and the stock speakers, or the amp and the stock speakers, are running at totally different ohms and will not work correctly. if you change out your radio or use a different amp you gonna have to change out all your speakers as well.

No they arent. The stock speakers work just fine with a aftermarket HU. In fact they sound alot better. (aftermarkets will sound better though)

Yse you can run a aftermarket amp to them, but you will have to be carefull as to how much power you send thru them. Use judgment and listen for clipping and distortion

ya but whats the power from the amp, an aftermarket HU puts out tops i have seen aroudn 25rms, if you put like my 5ch amp that pushs 70rms to each car speaker, you'll blow them out. would you not?

I'll have to check thre specs of my amp and get back with you.

fsttyms1: Did you install your HU and amp yourself? How do you run the wires from the HU to the new amp? Did you have to "rip" everything up to place the wires?

Speakers will blow easier from too little power (due to over working it causing it to clip and such) than they will with 50 more than they cane handle Bad power is worse than true power.. Just because the amp is rated for say 70 watts doesnt mean you have to use it. Turn the gain down to acomidate the speakers in use.

Yes i did, and yes you will have to take alot of the car apart to do (if you want it done right)

One more quick question:

When it comes to the Metra kit. Is 99-7868 the correct part number?
