Which type of engne does the A4 you speak of have in it? Is it the turbo 1.8 , or the V6 version. Audi has come up with an absolutely fantastic CVT system that doesn't seem to lose much powr at all.

the a4 is a great car IMO
the interior feels very nice, quality is nice and the car is solid, but i would like more power, and lose some weight!! because my 330Ci smokes my friend's A4 3.0 every time but then again, we all know that audi softened up the car to move the car towards the more luxurious side of the class, the car does look very sharp in the 17" rims though
one thing i don't like about the car is that it feels small inside, just the cabin seems tighter it is, i don't know why?

The audi is a 1.8T quattro. I can't wait to chipped it out. I heard you can bumped hp and torque over 200. Then, it will be able to beat my bluedemon tls for sure.
The good thing about audi is that there are a lot more aftermarket stuff for it than the acura. there is already three diff type of bodykits out there right now.
Overall, I still like my tls. It is definately more roomier than the adui.

Loved the looks on the new 02 A4, but the engine decided me on the Acura. Test drove the 1.8T with the CVT. Nice technology, but the car is an absolute PIG. The TL-S would annihilate the A4 1.8T. The car is very heavy, (they managed to make the 02 quattro 600 lbs. heavier than the last gen). There is actually a relatively small weight difference between a TL-S and the A4 (maybe 10%), and 80hp. Figure it out.
Put a chip in there and you'll be a couple hundred bucks lighter in the wallet, which won't save enough weight or add enough power to keep you from staring at the receding taillights of a TL-S.
With the 3.0 liter, the A4 is probably going to be more competitive, but it would still be close.

Even chipped, the 1.8T quattro will be slow compared to the TL-S. You don't say if it's Tip or manual. Guess the manual might come close, but the Tip will be far behind. And you can only get manual seats on the 1.8T, which have limited adjustablility.
Sure, there's many more things out there to tune your 1.8T with, and the TL-S is a hugh boat relatively if your road racing. But is that what you're going to do with the car? Or drive it daily with some occasional stop light racing, and carry people and things around? I wouldn't want to be the person having to ride in the back of an A4 for anything more than very short trips, especially if it had a chip, sport suspension, and 18's (assuming you swap up).
Now, the 3.0 CVT is another thing. But I felt the A4 was still too small and was also $4K more, while the A6 was outside the budget at $8K more. And no, the 3.0 CVT cars still can't match the TL-S for 0-60 or quarter-mile, but they're not far behind and the smoothness of the CVT overall might be enough to not care.
I won't say what I finally bought, since this isn't freshalloy.com. :p

If new A4 mods are anything similar to last gen.... Stage I A4 1.8T should still be slower than TLS.... Stage II would be close, and more likely down to driver... Stage III, well, A4 should edge out a bit.....
New A4 looks very nice indeed... and some of the colors offer by Audi are just awesome!!! I like the bluish-silver(Crystal Blue!?) and the 2 grey colors....

Nice choice! I'm thinking about getting an a4 3.0. I know it's slower, but it's not always about speed. The TLS is a nice car, but I think it lacks the LUXO feel. There are a lot of aftermarket parts for Audi's. Here's an A4 with the LLTEK bodykit.

still a Masshole
I have the ABP TLS and one of my buddies has a chipped 2000 1.8T A4 in silver (just like the pics) in 5mt. He has a chip and an exhaust and that car sounds sweet as hell! He's done a lot of work to it but we both still think my bone stock TLS can take it. Its a whole new ballgame on the twisities though! Not only does he have quattro but he also has nasty suspension and Kumho tires. I love the look of the both the new and old A4.
Oh and he is planning to get the Stage 3 APR turbo upgrade, which I've heard should put him in the high 13s! Best I can dream of now is mid 14s when I get headers and intake.

Hements: thx
in the 3rd garage will sit a Ferrari Spider. In my dream. Maybe if I win the lotto many time over...j/k
The audi is a Tiptronic car. I got it b/c I like the way it look and I can use it for the winter and for boarding. You are right about the manual seat and being cramp. I do like the red interior lights inside the car. very kewl.
I have a problem. What car should I fix up? the tls or the audi? I can't afford to do both. I was thinking of adding body kits, suspension and rims. What would you guys/gals do?
thx

Blue,
It depends if you're looking for bling or performance.
The Audi (if it's a 1.8T) is a much more tuneable car.
You should consider the following:
1. APR 1 bar chip $499
2. Painted lowers $500
3. E46 lip spoiler
4. body kit
With the TLS, to it's credit, it's already a great looking car..the only thing I would consider is Comptech springs for looks and possibly a cold air intake for performance.
In my case, every time I step out of my TLS into my A4 I am begging for more hp so that's something else to consider. Do you really want to widen the performance gap even more?
P.S. Haul your a$$ over to audiworld.com!!!

I seriously doubt that.
With a currently 175 hp in a A4 1.8T, I test drove a 2002 model before deciding on my CL-S. The car was EXTREMLY SLOW, and weak. The car is overweight, 3800lb. That little 1.8t can not pull the car at all hardly. Even with a CHIP, the car won't be near that much power. Due to the fact it has different fuel injectors which are already almost maxed out. They do not even have a CHIP yet, because its so hard to crack now. It will defintely not beat a TL-S even after being chipped.

The manual 6spd is the one I drove, and it was a dog. I hate to see the auto.

even i love my TL...but i still have to give it up for the new A4...heh...
it's a much more fun car to drive than a TL-S...so the performance factor isn't reallie a big deal for that
