Post Attn Comptech Spring owners

I just got back from my dealer who installed my springs on my CLS and there was a slight problem.....The inside edges of both of my front tires were completely bald!!

1. Has anyone else had this problem? (You can check by just cranking your wheel to the
right and looking at the inside edge)

2. What might be causing this?
The car was supposedly aligned as part of the install. Could the increase in negative camber be that significant that it would kill tires in 6000 miles?

I would appreciate it if you guys could check on your tires and post any findings. I did call Mike at Comptech and he said that the TL owners did not report this problem and also
talked about the possibility of camber adjusters.

You got your car aligned when it was done, but if you hit a pothole or the such, that could knock out your alignment.......sorry for the bad news, you just have to keep checking on your car.....

Can the alignemnt be really screwed even if the car isn't pulling to one side at all? Doesn't this problem sound like a camber problem? Has anything like this happened to yours? More info--please.

I've had the Comptech springs since May of 1999. My tires are wearing evenly. Even if you get an alignment, the cambers on our cars cannot be adjusted. You can either get a camber kit or have your alignment recheck. Toe-out could also cause the inside edge of your tires to wear out quickly.

It is usually recommended to drive the car for a thousand miles or so after installing the springs/before taking it in for a wheel alignment. This way, the spring can settle and you get a more even alignment.. If you align the wheels immediately, the car settles based on your alignment then a lil while later the car settles, not good...not bad either, but I waited a month or so before doing my alignment, and everythings correct, so far(had mine on since sept '99)

I am having the same problem with inner tread tire wear. I waited about a month after installing the Comptech springs and had an alignment. I have had the alignment and balance checked and they are both fine. I am a little frustrated by this. Do you think replacing the stock shocks would help? They will be two years old in May. Also, how do you adjust the toe?

Okay, I just got my alignment papers from my last alignment. The front left toe was .36 (-0.08 to 0.08 is the range). The front right was -0.23 (-0.08 to 0.08). The rear was in pretty good shape.

Can the FRONT TOE be corrected? And if so, why didn't the alignment shop CORRECT IT?!?!

The only thing that can be adjusted in our suspension is the toe in and out. Yes, your alignment shop can adjust your toe settings. I really don't know why they didn't do it. I've had my springs for about 25,000 miles now, my tires are wearing perfectly even.

If you lower your car with Comptech springs, you do not need the camber kit. Also, Titan's alignment readout states his toe is off, his wheels are basically poiting outwards (away from each other), that's why his inner tire is wearing out.
