Attn Atl - Timing Belt Prices
Hey guys
I have a '03 TL-S with about 100K miles on it. I decided to price out the cost of timing belts and I thought I would share them with you for your benefit.
Cost of replacing timing belt, water pump, compressor belt, and oil seals ... starting with the best...
But the folks at Accurate Care seem really thorough in their prices and I am going to go back there for 105K tune up which they priced at $525 (incl. change brake fluid, change trans fluid, change differential fluid, replace spark plugs, change coolant).
Hope this helps someone in ATL.
Thanks.

- Gwinnett Place Honda = $568.70 (no loaner car), $625 (with loaner), started out at $802
- Accurate Care = $675 (w/coupon on website)
- Jackson Acura = $749 (said maybe another 10% off)
- Eiffels Place & Ed Voyles Honda = $749
- Alan Cox Automotive = $838
- Nalley Acura = $853 (but guy said he will match any place that uses OEM parts ... but won't go there ... he should have given the best price to begin with)
- Alan Cox Automotive = $838
- Honda Carland and Acura Carland = $994 (guys wouldn't even negotiate ... very rude )

your getting chumped- the 105 service is the timing belt water pump valve adjust spark plug oil change service
Its the first big thing the TL gets in its life and covers everything
Dealer that quoted more may be offering more- or the lesser offering less in the end
Get it all done 1 place- check private honda specialty shops too

I got ripped by a bay area dealer who charged $2000 for t-belt,water pump, valve adjustment.
They quoted
t-belt $1500
water pump $300
Valve $300
I should have known better but I wanted it done at a dealer, the other dealer we didn't like.

Did you price VIP Automotive (or VP Automotive) in Marietta just off the South Loop near I-75? He quoted me in the $550 range for t-belt and water pump. The tensioner was an "option" with his pricing back in October, but I seem to remember it was an approximate $150 part or so and he said he'd call if he felt like it needed to be replaced. I suggested replacement while he was in there with everything apart and he hesitated, which I didn't like.

Try these guys
I trust these guys, used to use them when I worked in Duluth and had a '91 Integra...http://www.hond-a-tech.com/.
Very honest, straightforward, price is right. I plan on using them for my 105 service (which looks to be in a year or so); I do most of my own minor work, however.

FWIW - I was just quoted $788 in Charlotte.
BUT, I get off cheap since they are doing the Timing Belt Tensioner (TSB 3-030) recall, they're discounting labor ~$400.

The guy i purchased my TL of off just had the timingbelt/waterpump done at Danbury Acura in Connecticut, and the reciept shows that he paid just shy of $1500 for the work. Wheeeew, he saved me a big headache.

Timing Belt
I have a 04 TL Automatic. When would be the best time to change my timing belt? As of right now, my car is at 96k. I got a quota from Jiffy Lube, they said it will cost me only $550 instead of $650 at the Acura dealer however I am very hesitant to let them do the work because I am not sure if they are well equipped and understand about the TL.

never ever take the TL thru jiffy lube
let alone use them for this critical job!!!!
you wont get genuine acura parts (water pump) and will get a lot of headaches!
Have a private honda-acura- inport shop do it- or the dealer
You want the valves adjusted too- and lots of little things that SHOULD be part of the 105
Dont skimp- later when that part fails - its bad news all over again, and twice the cost to repair-- as it was to add a part in the first place

When I was asking prices locally for the 105- the guy actually did look out the window at my car.
You could see the extra $$$ ringing up in his eyes as he says:
Thats a nice looking car!!!- you must have put a lot of money into it~
estimate 1200-1500
Then he could not suggest an alignment shop for lowered cars.
I went 100 feet farther in the same auto repair shop complex, and found the place with the sunken alignment rack- you drive straight onto it from level ground. Nice!
They looked at my car and said:
You take really nice care of it- so you have probably done all the easy stuff - right?
figure about 800 with the tensioners and valve adjust that YOU will undoubtedly want!

I am pushing 138,xxx and finally decided to keep the car and get my timing belt done this weekend. In Kansas City, I was quoted around $900+ for everything(Timing belt,Water Pump, etc) from the local Acura Dealer. Midas and a few other places quoted cheaper prices but, like people have mentioned above, why skimp out and risk possible issues or problems in the future.
