ATF Drain/Fill ???

I was able to do a single drain/fill today. I did not plan on doing a full 3x3 so I was only limited to having 3 quarts of DW1 fluid on hand.

Process was straightforward and since I have the AV6 tranny and the Jet Kit on top of the original fill bolt, it was a lot easier for me to do the fill...
However, I noticed that the total liquid I was able to drain was little over 3 qts. It may have been overfilled when the swap was done... being that I only had 3qys of ATF, that was all I can fill... I did measure the fluid on the dipstick and I was actually surprised that it appears that the fluid was on the upper hashmark when I was expecting it to be at least on the half mark, or a little less... mind you, when I did the drain, my car was parked on our driveway on an upward incline....

should I be alarmed that I drained more than 3qt but only filled with 3qts? I barely notice anything different if not for a smoother shifting..

you should fill in what came out. Also make sure you're testing transmission fluid level when after it's hot (aka after a drive) and the car off.

I made sure to check it after the car has warmed up... checked it again this morning when I got to work... turn off the car, waited for a few minutes to settle the fluids... took the dipstick out and it appears that it is actually on the high side of marker...

Not overly concerned at this point... just making sure now that there are no leaks from the drain bolt...

As long as the fluid is between the 2 dots when warm then you have nothing to worry about. You'll have symptoms if over or under-full. It's not a bad idea to replace the crush washer on your final drain and fill. Enjoy!

If it was leaking from the drain bolt, you'd be able to see it

The original worry was that you drained out more than 3 but you only put 3 back in.

Two scenarios could cause that outcome:
1. it was overfilled to begin with
2. you under-filled slightly (assuming it was at the perfect level to begin with)

Now if you've checked and it's between the dots now, then I say you don't have much to worry about and 1 is more likely. If you start experiencing issues, you can always add down the line, maybe keep a quart in the trunk and continuing monitoring. Check under the car once a week to ensure it's not leaking from the drain bolt.

Keep it simple, don't overthink!

Yeah I agree. There's not much to worry about unless it's leaking.

Overfull transmissions might result in harsh shifting.

It was probably overfilled to begin with... I dont feel any hard shifts at all... I agree, just watching out for leaks... I did change the crush washer and I know I did tighten it by feel...

FWIW, broken engine/transmission mounts can mask the harsh shifting. But you'd definitely hear the 'clunk' though regardless.

Anyway it sounds like you're in good shape.

thank you... so far no hard shifting noticeable nor a clunk... I di however feel that the car is shaking a tiny bit at idle and when in neutral or park.... possibly a sign of aging motor mount?

Assuming the engine isn't misfiring on a cylinder then this is a good guess.

Like Horseshoez said, barring any running issues, I would put money on the rear mount. At one point I had replaced the rear with aftermarket which translated idle engine vibration through the steering column. Eventually, I replaced it with OEM and has been smooth since.

That's probably it... I remember changing all mounts except for the big one in front of the engine... I just used the ones the sell at AZ. I don't really hear a clunk or a jerking motion when the car is shifting...
